In the last few days I've been getting a greyed out band across the bottom of any new page I open on the forum. There's a X just above it on the right, and both X and grey area disappear when the X is clicked. This is on my iPhone, iPad and Mac. Any ideas what this is and why it's appeared?

I also see this on my iPad when using Safari or Chrome but not on a Windows PC when using Chrome.
It's a Google AdSense iframe that's failing to load. Only renders when safari user agent is sent which is why you wont see it on other browsers.

Played about a bit more and it's now rendering an ad block in chrome.

I've been getting the same on my i-Pad using safari, the white bar across the bottom with an x at the side. You can get rid of it by touching the x but it reappears on every page. Bit of a pain really, so will keep an eye on this thread to see if we can make it disappear
Apparently, you get grey bar if you been to PornHub or similar.

Been happening on my laptop running Microsoft Edge browser for a week or so , not on my iphone yet. Watching this thread hoping someone can offer a solution on how to remove it.
Install AdBlock Plus in each browser you use on your Windows machine and it will disappear.
Appeared in my Firefox a few days ago as well. 'Content blocking' is set to 'Strict' which I would have thought would have sorted it but it's still there.
The boss earns a little bit from having ads on the forum, I guess from Google Adsense or something similar. It probably helps to go towards the costs of running said forum. I do see them on Safari but just ignore them, to be honest they don't bother me. It's not like I'm looking at a Monet or something and they're in the way of the water lilies. I'll bet you all see ads in lots of places every day. It's life I'm afraid.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
We all know and appreciate this. However, ads here and elsewhere are becoming more and more intrusive taking up evermore real estate from the site that we all actually navigate to. Additionally, many are designed to be in a position that are most likely to be clicked on by the user but populate the screen a fraction of a second later than the main site thereby, effectively, acting as clickbait. Some I accept as they're not too large, others I block, particularly on the iPhone and iPad Mini as the real estate is smaller. Even with dual 27" monitors attached to my desktop I will block ads that are too intrusive. It's a constant battle between site owners and users.

[QUOTE=magirus;5225092]Thanks for the helpful replies. I've already got Ublock running, so looks like I'll just have to put up with it.
I think you will find Ublock and Adblock block the content of the advert but the frame if thats the right word remains. On my ipad if I run adblock the ads disappear but also things like the Timefactors logo as that is also an ad.
Ive found the advertising Eddie uses to help support the site change around from top of the page, at the side of the last post or as at present the footer or base of the page. I recon in a week or so it will disappear.
Glad to be proved wrong though
Steve
[QUOTE=higham5;5228058]AdBlock Plus blocks the ad and frame on a Windows machine (as I stated a few posts above). AdBlock Plus does not block the frame in iOS either on Safari, Chrome or DuckDuckGo. I have contacted AdBlock Plus to ask if anything can be done to make the behaviour identical to that on Windows. This may be difficult as iOS is tightly locked down.

Ad Block plus has just been updated and now blocks the grey band at the bottom of pages on iOS devices - or at least on my iPad!
my work blocks the ads so just get the grey bar - annoying as it is if its for ad revenue its not working as can't see the ads and no one clicks on theses things anyway
they used to be smaller and in betwixt the posts in the threads which i think was less intrusive - it must be a forum setting somewhere
