Wow, just demonstrates changes in musical taste. It's amazing that James Blunt (for examples) beats R.E.M., U2, the Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Abba, Queen and of course the Beetles.

I read an article about music tastes. One of the things was after the age of 33 you’re less likely to listen to new music and more of the music you already know. So greatest hits or discover further music by an artist.
So it less like to buy new music . So it’s not surprising that new artists will dominate the charts .

The real low point was Rolf Harris Christmas No1 in 1969 with ‘2 little boys’ and 1981 Joe Dolce ‘Sahddap ya face’ keeping Vienna from No1.
Alot of the new and factory produced stuff is completely forgettable the minute it finishes however its refreshing to have some genuine quality appearing such as Billy Eilish and Disclosure etc...

More to do with the fact that buying music is an old fashioned idea now I would suggest. A few big sellers from the early 2000s, and the rest made up from middle of the road pap bought by people in there late 30s or early 40s for background music.
The list doesn't represent 'young person's' music.
The music listed is Radio 2 MOR dross. This is because the only people who buy albums now are older people who listen to Radio 2.

80s? Dire Straits, Phil Collins, Whitney etc etc.
Your average punter isn’t as cool and edgy as us WIS types, so I guess they need their radio 2 muzak.

Change in musical tastes is healthy. I welcome some of the new bands, but still listen to old favourites. It’s surprising how the first bars of an old song transport you back to an almost forgotten moment. It doesn’t even have to be a song you liked...

You’ll probably find that youngsters are also keen to be ‘influencing’.
If they vote for something - and it is successful, they get personal gratification/validation.
So - they are more inclined to vote for things - a bit like seeking ‘likes’ on social media.......
I could live with some of the popular tracks of some of those albums... however I once stumbled across radio 1... never again...

Pleased I was born in the fifties!I was born in the 70's and mostly listen to stuff ranging from early Stones , Bob Dylan ,Led Zep to Talking Heads etc.. so I don't think its when you are born its all about taste.
Beige is popular with older people... and his music is very beige IMHO
Back to Black is a very good album, though her first was better. The other one I have from that list is White Ladder, though quite honestly I never liked it that much. Surprised it's in that list though. But most of those records are awful. Probably. I mean I haven't listened to Leona's album, nor James' and certainly not Ed's. Despite that I'd argue with anyone who claimed they were any good.
