    Something rather nice from Longines...

    https://www.longines.com/watches/her.../l2-828-4-73-0

At 38,5mm, no date, and 64 hours... sounds rather good. About 1800 pounds though.

There is a lot to like about it, but I do wish they missed of the cut off number at 6, and I'd love it if Longines could provide 100m for a number of their heritage watches - I'd have bought a couple of other models in the range if they had been over 30m - although I rarely get watches wet these days it's still a consideration/requirement for me when weighing up a purchase.
It's just a matter of time...

I agree with your 100m comment - I feel unless there is a practical reason why it has to be lower, then a 100m should be standard to give peace of mind. The 6 is offputting, but shifting up the seconds with a smaller movement wouldn't have been aesthetically pleasing.

Nice sector dial, but it feels pricey.

I appreciate its sufficiently different with the small seconds sub dial but just reminds me off the JLC master control.

They seems to really excel in the mid price point, kinda of where Omega used to be around 10-15 years ago.

The Longines is derived from an older Longines design and a sector dial is pretty much where the comparisons end. A single brand cannot monopolise a type of design - that isn't fair to do.

Looks very much like the JLC master control date, sans the date obviously

I'll admit I was ignorant of a sector dial hence the comparison.

At first glance it’s gorgeous but then the 6 not quite being an o then the sideways 9 and 3 give me pause.

Agreed that Longines have some nice watches in the mid point segment.

Have been looking at this one myself as a more dressy watch https://www.longines.com/watches/record/l2-821-5-76-2

Well I love everything about it, it's a pure win for me!

Not my sort of watch, but looks cracking, I think. Good size, decent movement, c.£2k, great dial...

Looks good for those considering a sector dial at mid-tier - I like it, would have a dressier on it if I had one..

I actually prefer the Longines. It's more... raw.

I really like it, I do think that it might have been better for the hour hand to be just touching the inner circle though, like the minute hand touches the outer. Would be nice balance.
Edit.... I should have gone to specsavers.

Yes - these are lovely! Love the historical look and feel.

It's about time Longines go back to their classics and get out of the mid-range!

Thanks for that. I was lazy! A few things really strike me design wise - they should have enlarged the seconds dial (the overall watch has increased in size) and also put a stick marker where the 6 is. Especially the latter, not sure why they opted for a cut 6.

I’m auspicious about the movement too - lower best than normal some else I read to increase the PR?

I guess closer to 1k may tempt a few but I reckon the original looks more balanced.

    That is very nice

...and a reasonable price too, lots to like.

As an aside, I have a real issue with the website though. Five pictures of the watch, *all* from the same angle. Nothing of the profile, back, or even at an angle to get a feel for the dimensions of the watch. Where's the thought?

  24. #24
    Agreed very nice indeed.

As alluded to I assume the movement is a slowed down ETA or Sellita to get that beat rate and the nor’easter the power reserve?

They opted for a cut 6 to be faithful to the original. I keep seeing posts from people moaning about this but if they had changed it people would moan about the design not being correct!

To my eyes something is not right with '12', other than that it’s alright, should be really on some sort of alligator, lizard or ostrich strap (Hello Greta).

Ah I thought it wasn’t a cut six, on the original, but it is. It this reinforces my point on needing to make the second dial bigger, it looks a bit small and lost.

    Something rather nice from Longines...

It is quite nice but a few things kill it for me.

    1) the cut off 6. I don’t mind cut numerals but that is a bit unnecessary. Would have been better to remove the full 6.

    2) the crosshairs - looks a bit silly and the bottom line is wiped out by the sub seconds and the top vertical destroys the logo.

    3) whilst no brand owns the Sector dial style this is way too close to the JLC for me.

Genuine question: have you read the thread or just the OP?

I'd agree with all of this and add that the hands are too thin. They're find on a clean diall but on this diall with the cross hairs, the hands are only a bit thicker than the dial lines.

It's a near miss by Longines from me.

Well I think that I am truly sold on this. I just love the looks and I can just about tolerate the arabics.

It's very nice but as others have said, the cut off 6 (or o or whatever it is!) just doesn't work.
