Sky+ HD Box with hard drive failure - options ?

    Hi

My Sky+ HD box has got the dreaded ' Diskless Mode ' hard drive failure.

I've been offered by Sky either a refurb Sky+ HD box ( think it was £60 ) or Sky Q ( £13 per month ). I'm concerned that the Sky Q option won't support the ' magic eye ' via RF output that we use to control the Sky box with from other rooms in the house.

If so , I think it will have to be a refurb box....anything else to consider ?

    Best Neil

Sky HD box is now just a few quid on ebay £60.00 is robbery if you do not need the Q option then why waste your money i have it mainly because the mini box is wireless so no cable from the dish but can use the Q app for the mother box.

Q is a good upgrade from Sky+ but you're right, it doesn't support the 'magic eye' remoting to other rooms; Mini Q boxes do that wirelessly. Advantages: - can watch something in one room while watching something else in others, (including recordings), recordings available across all Sky Q boxes and setting up of recording the same, greater disk capacity, all boxes can be connected wirelessly, the system is 'rented' so any box problems are down to Sky to fix at no cost to you. Disadvantages: - Stupidly expensive, if you cancel then you are responsible for returning the boxes and controllers to Sky, older Sky apps don't work with Sky Q.
    Best Regards - Peter

I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.

Just tell them you’ll cancel - stick firm and they’ll (probably) give you a new Sky Q and mini boxes, they don’t like losing subscribers.

If i am correct the HD box is the customers equipment not Sky’s so why should they replace it? unlike the Q box which they do own.

I read a while ago on Sky's forum that boxes of that age had user-replaceable hard drives. They'll take the 2TB units, I think.

If this isn’t yet sorted, I have a spare Sky + box after upgrading to Sky Q, available for the price of postage plus a donation to the fund raiser

    Sky Box Repair Option

    Hi

May be worth reading through and/or chattering with Michael Dranfield.

Linky: http://www.satcure.co.uk/repairs.htm. From recollection seemed to be half price (+P&P) of a Sky refurb.

I have him noted if I need anything doing on my box - as I dont subscribe to Sky.

    L-K
