    How much discount from AD

I was in my Tag AD last week looking at this watch

    https://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/TAG-Heu...3ca0e855bdb32a

Retail is £2,150..... after a short discussion we got down to price.

He told me the best deal he could do was £1,875 which works out around 13% discount.

Should I be expect more or is that an average discount rate?

I haven’t purchased yet and was going to try another AD to see what they would offer....

Personal view is you can do better than that - both on the watch of choice and the discount.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

    It’s a Tag, I would be expecting 20% minimum

Did this last week for a friend.

Was initially offered 13%, called up Gatwick and they had no problem getting any models required in with some notice.

Then went back to non-airport AD and asked if he’d match price.

He actually beat it by £10.

    Only took 3 phone calls.

There is a lot of watch snobbery toward Tag Heuer - both in this forum and in the watch world in general. Some of it is with foundation, but most of it is not.

Buy the watch you like and spend some time & effort seeking out the best discounts as they can vary wildly on certain models. Also, take a look at Hackett Watches and give Dominic a call.

Any less than 20% on a Tag is a no go.

At work Tags are -40% which is apparently the dealer margin.

What do you all do to have it sized correctly if bought online?

Do you do it yourself or take it to a trusted jeweler to have links added/removed?

I do it myself, but almost any highstreet jeweler will do it for £10-15.

Just make sure you inspect the link sides and screws for scratches and damage before you leave.

Yeah for Tags I'd expect 20% or VAT-free, get them competing with the airport retailers.

I got 20% off a Moonwatch from Goldsmiths with this plan.

Do it myself. If it's going to get scratched then I want to be the one who put them there, if you see what I mean.

If I have to hand a watch over to someone else for repair, service or warranty work I always photograph it in great detail first so that I can prove who damaged it later on (in case damage occurs). Keep a newspaper in view in the photo to prove the 'photographed-after' date.

aquaracer is a nice entry level Swiss watch so I won’t knock your choice. Is there any reason you want the ceramic bezel? Given that they pop up on sales corner regularly for under 1k

No reason for wanting Ceramic bezel, I just wanted an automatic aquaracer as I like the look. I’m not so keen on the bezel in steel though

You’re right all the ones that have come up here even in blue or black had polished stainless steel bezels. On chrono24 there are 2 or 3 grey market dealers in Europe (Germany and Monaco) they have it at circa 1600 with postage. You can add those to your negotiating tactic. Probably wouldn’t buy from them as they can take a while to source the watch.

Perhaps try beaverbrooks I have no experience with them but they run the tag boutiques in Sheffield and Leeds so I assume elsewhere too. I would guess they have preferential terms buying so might be able to discount further or not at all depending on their contract.

Send it to tag via one of their authorised dealers. You dont have to send it via the place you bought it.

Came to a deal with Swiss watches direct today on the Tag. Managed a 22% discount over RRP from them

The best I could do on the high street was 13% I tried 3 high street stores, one wouldn’t deal over the phone the other offered 11%

The guys at Swiss watches direct said 20% would be extremely difficult if at all, to achieve in the high street

    Pretty pleased with that.

I agree - given when your grey watch turns up it will have ultimately come from a high street AD (who still made a proffit). It would have been sold to the grey dealer at -35% RRP I would guess to allow the grey a margin.

Yet in store the chains claim more than 13% is impossible... They will put themselves out of a job like that!

Ernest Jones had this model on sale for £1255 a couple of years ago.

Based on this I’d be looking for a deep discount, and the fact that if you ever want to move it on at some point in the future you’ll take a bath on it.
