They don't like it when you buy, and don't like it when you sell...
Today I agreed with a guy a price for my Daytona. When I told my wife, I thought she'd be happy I was letting it go at a reasonable profit. To my amazement, she was not happy at all. In fact I'm I'm still in the doghouse. Her reasoning was I'd be getting rid of my best watch and keeping others that were not in the same league. (Suppose she has a point). One consolation is I can still order the Tudor Black Bay 58 I was going to put some of the money towards.
They don't like it when you buy, and don't like it when you sell...
I would be in the doghouse ( strike that I would be single again) if my wife ever found out how much I had paid for any of my watches never mind what I have sold some for , I work on the basis ignorance is bliss were the wife & my watches co exist.
She’s right. (That’s the problem with women - far too logical).

I hope you put her in her place as close to the kitchen sink as possible. You are not doing a good job of keeping the sink filled with dirty dishes. This is the reason you had time to talk to her!

Women are funny creatures.
However, she might have a point - replacing a Rolex with a Tudor could easily be seen as a crazy move

Told 3 female work colleagues I was done with my recently acquired Rolex Root beer and that I didnt like it any more. Response was great, they didnt want to say anything before but now I'd had an epiphany they said wearing Rolex was borderline chavvy (in the way having a Louis Vuitton handbag is with women) and that many people actually look down on people who wear Rolex for lacking individuality! That's me told then!

She once went makeup shopping and bought this cream for £50 a tube. She put it on, turned to me and said "This cream is great, once you've applied it, you can't see it." It reminded me of The Emperor's New Clothes.

I regard my wife as a safety valve to stop me doing stupid things.
I have a policy of never ever selling a watch and I have never sold one in my life. One of my watches is a Rolex 16520 Zenith Daytona and a couple of months ago I was thinking of selling it and just putting the money into equities.
It was the wife who talked me out of it.
She has also suggested that I buy myself a PP which I regard as very nice of her.
I took a very bad fall 3 weeks ago which has left me totally crocked up and will take a few months to get over. She has now banned me from buying anymore motorcycles for the remainder of my life. This has made me a bit grumpy but at the age of me being 70, I know that she is right.
Basically we all need a wife even if we don't admit it.

I gave up motorbikes when I reached 60. Turned out, the older you get, the faster you were. It does take time to get over the urge to get on one again, I've gone into recession a few times and it's worse when you watch a MotoGP race. I'm 72 now and the realisation I did the right thing is slowly setting in.

My basic strategy is not to tell 'er indoors when I buy a watch of any significant value. I have so many watches that an unfamiliar watch is never going to pique her curiosity.
However I can't imagine she'd be bothered in the slightest if I were to sell my most valuable watch (my 16750, I suppose).
If you ever figure out how to understand women keep it a secret, if they find out they’ll send a hitman after you!
My wife notices my strap changes but not the actual watch! It’s brilliant get away with lots oh just the strap changed
I'll have to try that.

Some secrets are best not told to the other half but I think she’s right and the Daytona will serve better later if you decide to sale. My advice would been to keep it with this in mind. When you sell a watch think of how hard it will be to replace if you sale it, especially after its hunt and or sentimental value.

Neither will I. We were having lunch at the royal exchange and said to her let’s browse in watch finder to see what Rolexes they have. She really liked a vintage 16710LN (was amazing but at 10k no thanks!) and the root beer but said the one she loved most was the Sea-Dweller Deepsea with the black face! Never ever thought she would like something like that!
It doesn't have any sentimental value but there is a danger that the prices have topped out. It's only four years old so I'll keep it a while longer and if my name comes up for the ceramic version, I might think about releasing it then.

I've got to admit, my wife is no fool. So she won't be out of her depth if I pop my clogs, she looks after the money. She gives me my spending money when I want it, then sends me out to do the shopping but doesn't give me any extra.
I think this is very good advice. Just like buyer's remorse, there can be seller's remorse. And replacing a watch can be much harder and/or more expensive when it comes to buying one the second time around.

Mine is the opposite , weirdly encourages my Watch collection. She was annoyed I sold my Paneria , but I wasn’t wearing it . I think I will sell two more watches that aren’t getting any wrist time.
She’s a big fan of Rolex .
She only had one which sadly got stolen so we’re awaiting a replacement .
