Thinking of buying a watch, but dunno if I’m being daft [36.5 mm case]

    Hi,

I’m after a Seamaster, but not the new one at the bonkers prices.

A local store has an offer on one of the old ones. But it’s the 36mm mid sized one. I just tried it on and I think it looks great (I have skinny wrists). If I didn’t know it was mid size, I’d buy it!

It’s brand new and they would let me have it for...£1850! Which is a bit of a bargain.

The only thing stopping me is thinking “the modern watch law says it’s too small” ;)

In other words, am I being daft?!

So, what's the issue? Who is buying it - you, or someone else? i.e what does anyone elses idea of size matter to you?

My issue is me never having a watch this size...even though I tend to find watches too big or heavy.

In other words, yes I was being daft. Thanks to the forum for that small therapy session! 😬

A colleague at work usually wears a PO 42mm but one day he was wearing his old Seamaster mid-size. It looked spot on, even after being used to seeing the much larger PO on his wrist.

I've just got the new SMP (42mm) and for me, its the perfect size. As such for me the 36mm would be to small, and not something I'd buy. However, thats just my opinion, if you try on the 36mm and like it, then great, go for it!!

If you thin its to small, there was a black dialled version of the last SMPc (41mm) on SC recently (not sure if still there) for not much more than the reduced your looking at. If it was me, this would be much more preferable.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

If you like it (at the price) then go ahead and buy it. There's nothing wrong with 36mm.

The latest full- size SMP is just a step too big for me, the previous SMPc was OK but the earlier versions, which are slightly slimmer, suit me better. The 36mm looks OK too.

Best advice I can give is to buy what suits you best, don’t be influenced by others or by current trends. Ideally, try both.

    His wife/girlfriend/partner may not agree!

On topic, OP, if you're happy with how it wears, who cares about anyone else? So I agree with Ach5 on that

Nothing worse than wearing a stupidly big watch, unless you're a Rapper - And then you have far bigger things to worry about!

With 6,75” wrists I find myself gravitating towards smaller watches, so my sweet spot ends up being between 36 & 38mm. If the watch looks proportionally correct on you then go for it, it’s a great deal.

Buy it. I wear various sizes from a 36mm Everest to a 42mm Voyager, with several in between. Makes rotating 'em more interesting.

If it fits well and looks good then buy it – smaller sizes are in vouge at the moment.

I can’t imagine anybody would look at your watch and think it wasn’t as good because of the size and if they did would you honestly even care?!

Walk down any street, in any town at any time and you will see that at least 50% of the men are wearing wrist watches of about 36mm or less.

It is only saddo fashion victims who wrestle whether to wear 36mm/40mm/42mm etc. Life is too short to worry about that sort of trivia.

Yes, big watches are just fashion, for decades men wore watches around the mid thirties diameters and nobody looked silly.

Oh and they gave me one of the Omega magazines and...this as well I think it's cos I went on about how the X-33 Gen 2 is better than the new one

    Very happy with it!

If 36 mm doesn’t feel small, go for it.
Small watches are not in vogue and size is not a fashion-only the clueless think like that.
Whatever feels right to you, is the right size for you.

PS- looks good on you, IMO

at just under 6.75" wrist I wear a 41.5mm PO and 42mm Pelagos and steinhart, I've got used to them and they look right now. I did have a 36mm SMP earlier this year, loved it too, much more confy and discrete. We can all wear a range of sizes, and be comfortale with that. its a great watch.

It feels great, discreet and best of all I don't feel like I am going to bash it on anything; I am an odd person who wears my watch on my right hand and I am right handed, so the smaller watch feels fantastic. It's also really light. Very chuffed!

You made the right decision. Thats a superb watch ,at a good price and it does fit your wrist size perfectly. I have owned 3 different Omega Seamaster SMPs all the standard full size;yet these days i wear 36/37mm watches mostly.

Absolutely fantastic price, and a great watch! I love how chunky the 36mm versions look, just too small for my gorilla wrists :)
It's just a matter of time...

Mate the Seamaster is a stunning looking watch, the co-axial is a great movement, and it fits really well in the photos. What a nice buy, I remember getting my first Seamaster and how chuffed I was at the time. Enjoy.

And nice one for the little extras!
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Looks perfect size to me, one of the most popular luxury watches ever sold over many years is the DateJust at 36mm, yes it’s been beefed up in recent years but a classic 36mm DJ looks good on mosts wrists.

I'm glad you heeded our un-needed advice and went with your instinct (that it looked great on your wrist) - it looks perfect! Enjoy! I used to have this watch and loved it.

Great buy ,seems a bargain considering the new Seamaster is over over 4k!

    Suits your wrist perfectly.

Thanks all, I'm still really happy with it the size is a revelation. It feels like it has the weight of a Ti watch, but with the solid feel of steel. I feel I've missed a trick in the past not having a smaller size. It's great!

That looks perfect! Never get hung up on size, the reality is most people could wear all sorts of sizes watches and look fine but alot of folk overthink things and get stuck thinking a certain size is what works for them.

My watches range from 34mm vintage dress watches, right up to 41.5mm Divers and feel no less comfortable wearing any of them TBH.

Enjoy it, do love these ceramic dial Seamaster, they look just amazing in person.

Minor addition, popped to the Trafford Centre last night. Apparently there are no plans to release a new version of the mid-sized Seamaster. I wondered if it was the new movement size, and didn't get an asnwer. Thing is, now I have this, I know larger watches (especially thick ones) have been the wrong size for me. So if I wanted to 'upgrade' in the future (while keeping this) then there isn't a diver Omega makes in this size. I suppose if the smallest they could do is 38mm, the difference between the 38 and the 41 is too small, but still, seems a bit of a shame they don't have a smaller / mid sized diver now.

My wrists are also under 7inches and I’m disappointed with all these IMO oversize watches that look like saucers on my arms and also ding much easily. That SM is perfect on you

Looks a good size on you. I have a 1950s Roamer which is about 34mm, looks fine on my 8” wrist.

As you’ve found, wearing a watch that feels heavy is just irritating. You’ve made a good choice with this one.
