    Rolex Air king

Been fancying one for a while.
Does anyone know if these can be bought without a wait and giving semen, blood and hair samples and first born son etc.?
    Thanks in advance
Not bothered if I gave to leave card etc as would likely be a keeper.

I inquired at my local AD the other day and was told a 6 month wait.

They used to be in every AD window but those days appear to be over as I haven't seen one for ages. I was at the local AD on the weekend looking at SS 36mm Datejusts (the new blue dial is amazing). They didn't have any fluted bezel 36mm (126234) and the lady said that even these are on back order now.

Seems any SS Rolex is only for the connected these days.
Or pay more for a flipped one?

Where are you based? It’s a watch that still divides opinions so not that popular, shouldn’t be hard to get

Fraser Hart in Milton Keynes have stacks of DJ’s in the window at the moment, men’s and ladies, steel and bi metal, loads of dial variants. A few oyster peps as well. No airkings though

I ordered an Air-King recently from a local AD. They told me it would be a six to nine-month wait, which I found quite strange given it's a less desired model. They told me all steels models are waiting-list now, including DJ 41s and 36s, but most of the lists are closed.

The actual wait time until purchase was one month.

    Crazy times.

Dealer quoted wait times are meaningless.

There is simply no fathomable reason why one of the worst design watches, never mind it says Rolex, should require a waiting list. Yes, it might be the cheapest way into the sports range at present but the only reason that this is on waiting lists is the Rolex hype bubble currently dominating many buyers psyche.

Far better watches to spend £5K on, they might not have Rolex on the dial but they have genuine style.

Up to about 6-9 months ago these Air king watches held up nearly most AD displays and in the flesh the poor design is just as glaring as the images professionally given out by Rolex. We all love a bit of recycling but there is no place on this model to use the numerals from the old Explorer. Some commentators have called this Airking design, risky and edgy, I prefer Lazy.

The Explorer 1 may be cheaper an entry point into the sports range but even in it’s maybe larger than perfect form, the Explorer has the iconic design cues and even more so now that they gave it the fully lumed numerals. The Air king model should be put into the recycling bin, such as mismatch of elements that do not work in my opinion but as you can probably tell, I am not a fan.

Much prefer the new AK to the Explorer, far more interesting. Expect AK values to continue to strengthen.

You are quite right, I will need to stop being so subtle in my objective arguments on the merits of a particular model

We do all have differing views on the plethora of watches available to us, I appreciate the variations that everyone as a watch enthusiast enjoy and if the Airking or any other watch strikes the chord that brings a smile to your face when you have it on the wrist, fair play to everyone.

Specsavers do free eye tests. Get booked in, then put your name down for an Explorer.

Technically it’s the 39mm oyster Perpetual at 4350 I think?

Nevertheless never understood why some members have such a strong negative comment towards something someone else is buying!

I happen to find the explorer a bit dull.
Tried both on,preferred the heft of the airking.

I suppose we should all be wearing fking subs.....

I like the quirkiness of the Air King, and the green on the dial.

In a room full of Explorers be an Air King!
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

I don’t think the Oyster Perpetual range sit in the Professional category. So the Airking is still the entry point in to what’s known as a ‘Professional or Sports watch’.

Air King is cool and funky. Explorer is classic but I'm yawning and falling asleep at the 'me too-ness' of the watch so get the Air King for sure.

My local AD has these in the window fairly frequently (Fraser Hart in Kingston)

I picked one up recently from WOS in Birmingham, pretty much no wait, like days. I love it

Best plan is to call a few ADs to find out, at least you could get on a waiting list if there is one.

There are loads on chrono24 ranging in price north of list. The most expensive standard example is listed at £19,854, from a private seller in the US bought in May !!

What interested me were the different modified examples on there, not seen any before, including one for the Sultanate of Oman with the national emblem engraved on the case back, £12k.

Had to double check, 4200 which I think is very good value. Says it’s now sold.

Can you confirm which MJ Watches that is? (Not doubting you at all, just not sure which one you're referring to).

For an AK???? Keep thinking we've reached peak Rolex insanity but that's a whole new level! Probably slightly longer ago than I think but it's not that long since my AD had one in the window - for months and months and months.

I should have bought the AK! I did try it on but couldn't put up with the shiny gold(?) 3,6 and 9.

And to think I passed by a 116710 LN, sitting in a AD window in Leeds as recently as early this year - or might have been late last year, I posted about it at the time.

For anyone who might be interested, the bloodhound project is off to South Africa later this month to carry out some high speed trials:

Unless there are rumours it’s being discontinued even I’m surprised it’s that much demand?? Unless foreigners are just buying all SS watches left right and centre due to weak sterling

Funnily enough that's the reason why I sold my Explorer 214270 after wearing it for just one year. I got bored of the design and sick of the YouTube community's obsession with it. It's a bit over rated after owning it myself.
