    Rolex 1675 Dial

    Evening all,

I have been considering buying a 1675 GMT that has become avaliable. The seller seems pleasant and knowledge but there is one aspect I'm struggling with. The dial on the watch shows almost no patina at all (the watch is a mid 70s model). I have had watches such as a 5513 which, at a much younger age had developed a very different colour for the markers.

The seller thinks this is the original dial, but would you not expect to see more aging/yellowing? It doesn't matter all too much to me if it is but the value attached to such means I don't want to pay over the odds!

    Any input much appreciated!

Is it a so-called “washed” dial?

This was my thought. I know the service dials were latterly made with Superluminova so that might explain it!

TBH better definition pictures would help.

Forgive my ignorance but a 'washed dial? Does this refer to when the lume coating has been removed?

Yes, precisely. There’s mixed opinion about them but I’m fairly sure I’ve had a couple in the past... I’ll try to find some images and post them here.

Service dials used to be marked "Swiss" on old Tritium Watches, but later ones were also "Swiss Made.

One way to check is to charge the Dial with a touch. If it glows, then it could be a refinished, fake or a service Dial.

If its dead, then it could be just a very white Dial or a washed Dial. Unlikely to be fake.

IMHO so looks the fonts wrong at Oyster Perpetual and the space between the words is too big.

    If I get a 1675, I want the patina.

You still can get a patina on tritium service dial

    Good afternoon!

Many thanks for everyone's input. I think the only way I'm going to know is as suggested, take a closer look at the Lume. Either way it seems unlikely that it is the original dial as advertised. I will ask the question and see the response.

    Thanks to all again.

It’s how they would have looked ‘back in the day’, of course...
