GasGasBones Shutting Up Shop - Not

Many of us are aware of the fine work that has come out of Carl's shed over the years, mainly nylon straps but also some well thought out timepieces with impressively over-engineered packaging. He has just announced that he has almost totally shut up shop, although will still produce a couple of popular items.

He has been very honest with his reasons. Please take the time to read this: https://www.gasgasbones.com/read-me

    Here's what he'll still be producing: https://www.gasgasbones.com/straps-2

And, for now, his quiet but pleasant forum 'The Shed' is still open: https://www.gasgasbones.com/the-shed

Best wishes for the new adventure, Carl.

Good on him! When it stops being fun it’s time to make changes.

All the best to you, Carl

A refreshingly candid message :) Sorry to hear he's (mostly) closing shop, but his reasons I can perfectly understand, as I've been and partly still am in a similar situation.

Not a big strap guy but can't argue with his reasoning or honesty. Good luck to him and refreshing to read something that candid and not spun. Sounds like a top guy.

What a shame but also completely understandable.

I’m surprised anyone could last that long working alone in a shed.

    Good luck to him.

It’s totally understandable. Alone in a shed day after day would send me doolaly (and I am a mizog)
I have had quite a few straps from Carl over the years and they have all been fantastic quality.
I wish him all the best in his new endeavours.

I echo what everyone else has said, Carl’s a top lad and top strapman.

Wishing you and your family all the best Carl.

Good for Carl. Sad for us. Great straps, I have a a few, his Speedmaster nylon close to being my favourite although no speedie in the collection at present which says a lot about his straps, I could bear to part with the watch but not the strap

I wish him all the very best in his new endeavours. Top fella

Carl made me a lovely leather strap for my DC67 back in 2008, beautifully soft and supple. I'm sure he'll do well in his new venture, good luck!

Everything I've ever had from Carl has been of the highest quality, his service has been superb & people who have commented have always been positive.
The manager of the Omega store at Bluewater looked at my Speedmaster on its black GGB strap with the custom made "Speedmaster" buckle and pronounced it the coolest thing he'd ever seen - a fitting tribute indeed.
Very best wishes for the new job Carl.

Good on him! Nothing better in life than being honest with yourself and not always easily done when it goes against the flow.

Have to admit, you forget how repetitive his strap making must have been, and isolated which I can fully sympathise with (that’s why I have 2 dogs with me all day).

Good call and best wishes Carl.

My Speedmaster on the first Gasgasbones strap I ever got. I wore it in the Omega store in Bluewater and the manager said it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen.

Being an anti-social cynic, I suspect he'll find that the novelty of dealing with humans in form of idiot bosses and aggravating co-workers will soon wear off, and the shed will somehow regain its attraction!!!!

What a really lovely bloke I wish him every success on his future plans.

I think you could be right. It's difficult to find a balance. I'm somewhere between Carl's past and his future. I'm currently spending 3 days a week in an office, based on a business park working for a design agency (on a freelance basis), and two days a week doing my own stuff in my studio in a semi-rural location.

    My shed...

What a shame but hopefully he'll enjoy the new challenges. Im sure life as an employee will be easier than being his own boss!

    Good luck to Carl.

Personally I would much rather work in a garden shed than having to commute and deal with often quite "challenging" people. But it takes all sorts.

Good luck for the future mate!
    Cheers,
    Neil.

A thoroughly decent guy, I've enjoyed the results of his work and our conversations over the years.

Nice one Carl, the Shed IS your natural habit!! All the best for the future and success for all the wonderful things which will doubtless emerge through its doors.
