Something has to go to fund this...

Sometimes a picture does not convey reality.

Question is which ones have to be sacrificed.

Would be good to see which watches you have that are on the potential ‘to go’ list.

My SD43, JLC Universal Time and I’d need to add some cash of course.

left kidney gets a bit of cash. Seriously though, I had built up a war chest for a forum favourite, but just happened to be walking down New Bond Street and window shopping. Big mistake!!

Do it, I'm sure you wouldn't regret it!

Came across it on Instagram and thought wow, that's stunning! Checked the price and quickly realised its a bit out of reach.

Lovely watch but would prefer the panda dial. That would be my choice.

Oh dear lord, that's the one. The SS micro adjustment on these looks very interesting and coming with three straps is very cool. Only downside is Richemont but that's the same even if buying a Lange.

I was going to get the 3 hander version, the 4500V and then I saw the Grand Seiko SBGK005 in the metal. The Vacheron is lovely but the GS dial absolutely spandazzles it and so I got the GS which was handy as it saved me around £6k too! But before going for that watch, if it is the dial or case that is the draw for you check out the GS first as the dial and casework is superior to the VC (and the dial materially so). If it is the bracelet that is the selling point then the GS doesn't have one but also that VC bracelet is pretty much peerless.

As to what you should get rid of - my Rolex Rootbeer is underwhelming me and I'm counting down the days until I can get the warranty card from the AD and sell it. If you still have yours get rid of that I reckon.

Sorry but just not seeing the attraction of that. Perhaps it's different in reality but that picture looks like a £200 watch.

I think it’s the picture. VC may not be to everyone’s taste.

The reality is a lot different. A seriously under appreciated brand that make, package, and delivers without making all the marketing fuss.

Agreed, but guess that's why we have so many watches, to cater for so many choices...

I tried the VC chrono and the three hander, both in blue, at Selfridges the other day.

Other posters are right about pics vs reality ... the blue is fantastic in the flesh IMO and both watches feel great on the wrist.

Beautiful finish, bracelet very tactile and these also come with the rubber and leather straps.

I'm seriously tempted by a VC and considering the three hander in blue.

I also tried on the GMT with white face and red accents - also a really nice watch. Oddly the blue GMT doesn't have the red second timezone indicators, rather they're white, not as nice I didn't think.

Good luck with whatever you choose. I agree with a few others, definitely this over an SD43.

Sorry don't like either as the date window spoils it...is it so difficult to put it at 3 or 6...or even at 12 would look better.

The earlier version had a 'big-date' at 12 - I can't see how a small date would work without interfering with the sub-dial symmetry on this model. I guess I am used to the date at that position - having a few Zenith in the past.

I was thinking of getting something green (hint hint) but then saw this amazing blue that just blew me away!

Thanks for the comments Ryan - I actually like my RootBeer - the roselor gold works for me and it's the only GMT I have in my collection at the moment. At this rate it may be the only Rolex left (apart from the Air-King-Date)!

I think a few people have misunderstood the question. Wasn't which one, was which ones. Obviously a VC Overseas Chrono > SD43 but that's because it's approx £10k Vs £25k! Bit of a no brainer but no person or shop will do a straight trade so doesn't matter.

Martyn, list the possible contenders for the chop which you'd need to sell in order to add up to the VC and you might get some better answers.

I don't know how many people would be saying VC if the question was SD43, Sub, and £5k cash etc.

Why don't they rotate the writing on the disk like Bell & Ross do - the placement is OK it's the wonky typeface that looks lazy.

What’s a realistic price for the panda?

Retail is about £25.3K - going up to £26.1 on 1st October... you might get one or two £K off the panda. There is one in Wempe Bond St at the moment and they were willing to negotiate.

It was more actually a financial reality check! I should be able to do a revised SOTC in a week or two once all the trading has settled. I am still on the (real) waiting list for the Breitling 806 re-edition but release date is now the end of October (was meant to be available in August). At that point I should be settled for this year.

Saw one in their boutique two weeks ago behind the glass while I was having a bracelet adjusted. Didn't try it on as I'm not buying but it did look seriously nice and very different. Not your everyday watch. If they bring out one on a bracelet I would definitely be interested.

It’s the standard optical illusion of a closeup which causes distortion in the picture. It is a quite respectable 41mm (I think). I am sure the specs are on the VC website!

Ok, thanks, 41mm is very respectable. It does look a lot bigger in the close up.

I just checked on VC website: The chronograph version (pictured) is 42.5mm, the three hander is 41mm (and slimmer than the chronograph). Ignore what they look like on my wrist - the pics are crap.
