    Pick one restaurant in London

    I’m looking for inspiration.....

If you had to pick just ONE restaurant in London, which one would it be?

The only restriction is not Indian.

I have but I still think the Quality Chop house is my number 1 (I reserve the right to change my mind whenever I like)
Would recommend Brat though, had some memorable dishes there.

Not been to that many, but the one I would most like to go back to? Murano.

Koba is good. La Caprice is a decent Italian. I've been to Nobu and it was very nice but I'm glad I wasn't paying. Really like Barrafina but it's first come first serve and you sit wherever there's room - I sat next Keira Knightly last time I was there (quite plain but with a massive jaw).

Blacklock, Soho. It's not fancy and it isn't fine dining. But it's very, very good.

Misatos in Chinatown. Proper Japanese food. The place looks awful and it’s dirt cheap, but the food is, and has been for decades, impeccable.

Have been very fortunate with work and done most of the Michelin starred ones. All really nice but if you asked what my absolute favourite is it would be Cappadocia in Kingston Upon Thames. Brilliant Turkish restaurant and very keenly priced.

Of the fancier stuff the Ivy is always really good.

I don;t get to eat out in London very much so my experience is not very wide but Chotto Matte on Frith St. is probably the one I'd go with.

'Le Caprice'. (Not being pedantic, just that that ensures you'll get the right one via google.)

Far too difficult to say. More criteria needed.

Goya in Pimlico. Best place for tapas. Big potions, delicious, good choice and very reasonable!

The mains are great too. Fillet medallions in red wine and mushroom sauce are just splendid!

Beaten to it by R0bertB00th, was also going to say Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge.

There's definitely a sense of occasion but doesn't feel formal or stuffy.

Just hunting through the photos from when I took my daughter when she was younger. The at-your-table liquid nitrogen ice cream was fun.

Behold the wonder of the 'meat fruit'..

    Simpsons In The Strand.

Hardly cutting edge but beautifully historic and atmospheric with great food, if you like traditional English fare.

I didn't think it was that good really. Bit old fashioned (maybe that's the point) and average food.

    Three that I’ve enjoyed:

    The Wolesley
    The Goring
    Galvin at Windows

I think The Wolesley is my favourite though.

Also, I was really impressed with The Ivy Chelsea Garden recently.

Unfortunately i inadvertently obtained a wife who can't stand Indian food. This is a lesson in doing your homework before popping the question.

Anyhow, thanks for the replies so far......I don't suppose anyone has eaten in Mere?
