    Astronauts Speedmaster Antiques Roadshow

As above, there is apparently a historic Speedmaster on the Antiques Roadshow this evening. Got to be worth a watch.

Well it’s not an astronauts watch as per the virgin tv box synposis but an Ultraman

Nice story, well done to the owner.

    £40k a fair valuation?

Just saw that - Ultraman. Clearly not as nice as the newer version! 😀😉

If he offered £40k I'd be selling

Great story and surprise for the owner. A full service and sympathetic clean from Mr Freese is in order.

Was a good story mind. Nice to see a guy getting lucky.

Also, nice to see a watch with a bit of mileage on it. Fair play.

You can’t tell me that the owner didn’t actually realise what it was and how much it was worth in the first place...🧐🤨😉

Can’t understand the love for scruffy old Speedmasters, I was amazed at the estimated value.

One sold at Phillips last year for $76k.

But i agree, I cannot understand the love either.

He better not sell it on SC, any profit on that £45 and I’ll lose my mind..

I can’t agree Paul, a lovely old Speedmaster has a warmth and style that is difficult to find in other watches, probably because it’s such a big watch for an old design with a domed plexi, most other watches in that era were tiny by today’s standards.

Looked like a well loved watch. I nearly popped down to the cathedral in my lunch break to have a look round but got sidetracked, wish I had gone now!

That valuation surprised me a little (and my wife a lot!) but it was a lovely watch, with a nice story to back it up. I have a soft spot for old Omegas though, so would be delighted to own something like it.

My problem would be that I’d like to actually wear it, not stuff it in a safe. Which might not be the most sensible idea ever!

Neither can I Paul but I can apply that to any scruffy old watch. However, after a service, sympathetic clean and probably a new crystal it would look very nice. I'll add that I would also remove (but obviously keep) the bracelet if I was going to wear it.

    :-)

It's not a R**** though, so he might get away with it.

It sold at Gardiner Houlgate last week for £25K, meaning unless they waived the commission he probably trousered around £20K, rather less than the £40k suggested on TV. He probably felt miffed.

Same as all valuations on the show , well over the top and just an opinion !

It may have made that sort of money at more prestigious auctions Christies , Antiquarium, Philips .

But I'm guessing the fees would have been alot higher at these auctions !

I hope hes happy , it was a very well used example if I remember rightly and hes done ok for a watch purchased from the nafi
