Emergency grab bag. Whats in yours?

Apparently, in a tweet hashtagged BePrepared, Police Scotland urged us to get packing. “September is preparedness month. Emergencies can happen at any time and it’s recommended to have a #GrabBag ready containing essential items including medication, copies of important documents, food/water, torch, radio and other personal items.” An accompanying diagram of a backpack included, among other things, a whistle, a radio and a first aid kit. Other forces put out videos.

So do you have one or are you going to get one?

I have a carrier bag with a 24 pack of Ghost Ship and 2 bottles of prosecco but I'm not sure if it counts.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

    First and foremost:

    https://www.katadyn.com/en/de/89-2010000-katadyn-pocket

I've had it for getting on for thirty years, I've taken it around the world, more or less, and it's never let me down. Currently, I just use it for the pleasure of drinking local spring water from time to time, but you never know when you'll need it.

pretty normal thing in NZ, although not everyone is as diligent (the growing assumption nowadays is "someone else will deal with it") earthquakes being the most likely reason for needing.
i have a small 3day bag in my vehicle and a box in my garage with around 90days worth of food & consumables which is split into a 60day fixed kit and 2x 2wk packs should i have to relocate.also have a large and small 1st aid kit with the larger being more of a trauma set. comms on standard band widths so all emergency services can be contacted.
its a bit extreme but it was not particularly expensive and i like the idea of being able to assist anyone less prepared (i have a few idiot mates).

a lot of people in CHCH who were not "preppers" are now very much converts for next time around.

edit: my partner has just moved back to Canada and her family home has a cold store downstairs with food enough for 4 people for well over a year probably 2! her mother cans and preserves pretty much 75% of everything they grow or kill.
if the end comes and you happen to be in Canada, head for the Okanagan :)

First I’ve heard of it. Some of the comments on their tweet are fantastic.

If you're getting into this the other almost equally important aspect is to maintain a good level of fitness.

dont have one, but im sure i could knock one up in seconds - all i need is a packet of scratchings and a bottle of coke for most situations.

.... not heard that any nuclear or zombie wars have recently started so i'll leave stuff like this to the survivalist nutjobs.

I wonder if I should put a bit of weight on. I'm too thin to go without regular food for long.

My Bug-Out-Bag was just going out clobber; shoes, short (ironed and carefully rolled) and a pair of pants. Plus the classic Jean Paul Gautier aftershave, the ladies used to love that shit.

Never used once obviously. I realised that, because I'm a bloke, I can get ready for a night out in 3 minutes if I have the right motivation ("Emergency Kev, the taxi just pulled up and we've all finished our cans!!")

Strange but I was thinking along the same lines only this morning...

After being rushed into hospital and ending up being kept in and having no toiletries, cloths, etc.... I was wondering if I need an 'emergency rushing to hospital and might be staying in' bag ;-) The sort of things I see expecting parents (on TV) have packed within easy grab range near the front door. You realise you've reached a certain age when you start to think about an emergency hospital bag :-(

The idea has been treated with a fair bit of levity on here and rightly so IMO.

The whole thing is a load of old tosh.

Haven't the law got anything more useful they could be doing?

Should be sorted for the zombie apocalypse then:

    - Erm... Purple Rain?
    - No.- Sign O' The Times?
    - Definitely not.
    - The Batman soundtrack?
    - Throw it.

Taser and pepper spray. Should be enough to overpower someone with a well stocked grab bag.

Sadly, the site is not up-to-date. Some nice pics answering: 'What would you save from your burning house?" Many call a Glock an essential.

A set of irons, a 24 degree hybrid, a driver,a putter, a sleeve of ProVs, some tees, a divot repairer, a set of waterproofs and a pencil.

Plus a credit card to buy another other crap you might need.

    Cool real life

btw I háve an ´emergency´ bag:
A cotton shoulder sack with a clean shirt, underpants, condoms, shaving kit, after shave, to throw in the car when going out several times/week. Also have a small container for coffee grind which I grind fresh before leaving. Also a hard case mini wallet with id, drivers license and cash.

There´s a small tool/repair kit (with tie wraps, rubber bands, duck tape, sealant, pull cable, starting cables etc.) and a sturdy multi purpose knife in the car.

Went to collect a bonnet at a breakers in Málaga last night. Yes stayed at a gf´s. Going to La Cala for late lunch... Threw an extra set of linen long trousers in the bag.

Given these are strange times I was reminded of Hunter S Thompsons grab bag in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,

“We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.

Would certainly take the edge off any emergency/ in extremis.

You'd most likely want to substitute the Bud though.

I always have a knife in my pocket be it the walk to work, or in my jacket pocket at a wedding. Something tells me the police would frown at me being prepared in such a fashion..

Same here. The ‘frowning’ would depend on the type of knife and length of blade.

    Hey
I have a “get-home bag” which is a bag with more supplies than tools. The bag bought it here: (https://tigernu-online.co.uk/) I plan to have to go from one place (unsafe) to another (safe) probably within the city. Preferably I would have a car but if needed I could ditch the car, take my get-home-bag) and walk the rest of the way.
