With a bit of luck you might get a GS quartz off SC for a grand; it does happen. All ou need is a bit if patience. Worth the wait.
So get on SC as soon as you can.
I am looking to but a battery solar or even wind pier watch does not matter.
I want the watch to be always ready. Pick up and go.
I am looking for a slimish 12mm or so analogue watch around 36 to 40mm case
The absolute dogs b@&£¥$s would be a used Grand Seiko quartz but with a grand to spend would need more luck than you could shake a cat at.
Anyway I am just after any recommendations or things to avoid as I have no idea about this type of watch.
Thanks for looking

Aqua Terra Quartz may be worth a look as well. It's a couple of years ago now but mine was only around £1200 new from Chronext.

Being a boring Rolex enthusiast I had to buy a 1675/16750 homage because I can't stomach paying the current Rolex 4-digit prices.
It was a bit disappointing that it's a quartz at first but then again I haven't owned a quartz watch since... well... I don't remember... and I bought this shameless homage.
Not my photo, the watch is going to arrive next week. I'll make a review of the watch when it arrives.

There's loads of options. If you like the GS 9F quartz, and have a budget under a grand, then you should consider:
Citizen Chronomaster
Casio Oceanus
All grab n go, lightweight, and under 40mm.
Omega Aqua Terra is a great choice, I debated between the Omega and Grand Seiko 9F.

You'll pick up an early Breitling Aerospace with the italic numerals for just under a grand.
Make sure its had service history though... Could bite your wallet!
Save for the Grand Seiko. In a league of their own

Seiko 8F56. All discontinued now but still available as NOS or good condition secondhand. 10 year battery life, accurate, perpetual calendar, always ready to go.
