Service station on autoroute near Troyes, France. I’d post a video but can’t see how to.

Aha, I thought those chevrons were blue. The French could teach us a thing about lay-bys and the layout and landscaping of service areas.

I thought a very similar thing just the other day when I stopped at some services on the side of the M1. Albeit to be fair, they are all pretty grim.

What an utterly depressing and disgusting experience that was. Run down building, crap facilities, nothing but rubbish fast-food available and the air in the Gents facilities was barely breathable, it was so unbelievably putrid it was overwhelming. It seems such a shame that all of the motorway service areas in this country are so dire.

Two parked in front of a restaurant near Cascais yesterday. They served a lovely tuna, btw.

The French do know how to put a nice service area together, good coffee, nice food, lovely picnic areas, range of weapons/knives usually on display just in case you forgot your tactical blade - although they charge you to use the actual road next to them...having said that - hassle free driving experience 99% of the time, quick and efficient which can definitely not be said about the UK motorways...

Have you ever experienced that yourself or are you just repeating some hearsay stereotyping?

When driving into Goodwood Festival of speed we were stuck in a queue of Pagani’s .The owners club were just leaving the circuit. I even took a shaky camera pic, but its poor. It consisted of appx 10 Zonda’s Zonda R’s and Huyra’s . Must have been 5 million quids worth!

Er, don’t you mean £20 million (at least)?

    So that's okay then.

What about commenting on British tourists being always drunk - humour as well or racism?

I'm often drunk when I'm a tourist, and I'm British so not particularly bothered. If the cap fits. . (happy smiley drunk though!)

However I must add I'm not an ex-pat at the moment

Bravo, thanks for the correction, my knowledge of these things is so limited, as I had only ever seen one Zonda before and that was at a motor show. I have to say the all carbon top gear record holder looked fairly special.

Neither, a generalisation, but observed fact, can't be racism as the French and English are the same race

    Thanks for clarifying.

Could I ask the favour of explaining it in simpler language for the postman?

I've had a 'whole afternoon' lunch in France, not saying it's a bad thing

I'd have to agree, though, that the French are not a race, they (like the British, Germans, etc) are made up of multiple races.

It may be jingoistic or xenophobic to stereotype them, but I suspect it's really just a little jealousy, wishing we (the British, or maybe English) could be a bit more relaxed about such things.
