    Alden unlined chukkas

having admired these for sometime i think this winter is the year to buy them, at £600 they are pretty pricey for some chukkas! anyone got any tips on shaving a little off?

    https://www.trunkclothiers.com/alden...ka-snuff-suede

I have a vague recollection before of someone mentioning to me a code you can use on a first order from trunk or kafka?

Phew £600 what do they do ?
All due respect but they don’t even look warm or waterproof. But that may just be my ignorance

I paid £600 for some Indys and couldn't find a way of getting them much cheaper as so few places sell them in the Uk and they know it

I don't think you can work out the size that way. They are US sized and the fit depends a lot of the last shape. I've got a pair of those and they fit small, so if I'd have to guess I'd say that go one full size (US) above your regular UK shoe size.

    They are nice, but..

The £6c will buy you nearly 2x pairs of Cheaney Garforths which are just about the best made chukkas available, without going bespoke.

For that money I'd rather have a pair of Church Shanghais tbh.

No offence to anyone but paying £600 for a pair of boots or shoes seems crazy to me. I recently bought a pair of Merrell boots for £85 and nearly balked at that.

I’m sorry but you’re on the wrong forum then! people spend upwards of £10k on watches that aren’t even necessary! XD

Joking aside, the OP needs to try out if possible because Aldens have a multitude of different lasts that fit quite differently? Are these the barry last? in which case they can feel quite roomy. Also what width are they? Standard is D or E.

I'd never heard of a "Chukka" until just now. These used to be called desert boots, or Chelsea boots I think. £600 seems like a complete rip-off for a pair of informal boots or shoes. What is so special about them? Timberland do nice ones for around £100.

Boots have a pretty short lifespan compared with watches, IME. But it's your money.

I see watches as an investment pleasure. I rarely buy anything new as I prefer to let someone else take the depreciation hit. Of course if I had the chance to buy a 'premium' item at retail be it watch or anything else I probably would.
But boots? No, or any clothing ftm. Maybe a handbag but that's another story

    Alden unlined chukkas

Have a look at the Loake 1880 Pimlico chukka boot. Lined & with a dainite sole for a third of the price. The Aldens look like a glorified Clarke’s desert boot to me.

People spend stupid money on plastic trainers that don’t last a year.
Good shoes are an investment and actually work out cheaper over their long lifetime.

I like decent boots, but I can't see where the money is going with those.

Sure, every individual is different. I take pleasure in getting a solid shoe from a top brand like John Lobbs, Alden with their cordovan series are very nice too. Sure a 150£ timberland from an outlet will get me from A to B. To each to their own!
