Any one know anything about pitch forks??

I got this old pitch fork and i have absolutely no idea of it's age.

The handle is broken and obviously much newer.. I may get it replaced, but have no clue on which length to go for or if it would of had a handle etc.

I very much doubt it's worth much at all, but I'd be interested in it's history.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. :)

Please can I borrow it? I'd like to chase Boris with it.

My uncle used to have those in his dairy, used for loading out soiled straw. They just had a long handle with no cross piece.

List a Rolex on SC for above retail. You'll get plenty of pitchforks then.

I don’t know anything about pitch forks, but on a sort of related theme, I nearly bought a lovely old steam train stokers coal shovel at the car boot recently, lovely thing it was, I have absolutely no requirement for one but I wanted it.
    Cheers..

Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Not sure I would class that as a pitch fork, they usually had 2 tines with a gentle curve to the tines over ~10 degrees or so and long (think 5-6ft) handles with no top bar. Absolutely ideal for stabbing a bale and then lifting it directly over head to around 10ft high and then throwing the bale off onto a trailer.

What you have there looks more like a mucking out fork (as the previous person said about his uncle's diary), again a long handle no cross piece so you can easily reach into a cubicle.

    Enjoy it!

You'll need a smock and a floppy straw hat to complete the outfit....!

I’d say that’s definitely for mucking out anything that uses straw or hay for bedding. Used like a rake to gather it up and a fork to carry it. I still remember the almost chalk like scraping noise from my childhood.

That looks more like what we call a grape. A pitchfork here has two prongs.
