    Daytone Polishing

My SS Daytona is 5 years old now, and due to daily wear is looking very sad and tired, has anyone reccomendations as to whom might polish it for me other than an AD ?

It obvioulsy has the Oyster braclet with the Shiny centry band which I would want to keep ?

Unfortunately I don't have any recommendations, but I would say approach with extreme caution.
Even manufacturers can be guilty of poor refinishing. I've seen what I would consider substandard refinishing from Rolex themselves lately where the grain on the bracelet is miles off the factory finish. Has a more course appearance and not uniform. Almost like they've used a sisal wheel that's too aggressive.

And that's where I think the problem lies. I can only make assumptions, but I assume they just use various abrasive wheels to remove marks and damage, then proceed to finish with a buffing process, again with polishing wheels depending on final finish.

Nope. Not really. Just as an independent business owner. I like to give the smaller companies a chance.

Two main reasons for going to Rolex or an accredited repairer.

    1. Your Daytona will get 100% genuine Rolex parts. Indies can't always get them since Rolex restricted them.

    2. A Daytonas value will be higher with a Rolex service paper.

You have a good watch, don't cut corners.

Watchworks will do a better job than RSC and are Rolex accredited.

Totally agree, RSC do a great job and your watch will come back looking and running like new.

I will be sending off my Submariner to RSC next month for its regular 5 year service.

For my 2 pence worth, for a watch of this calibre it has to be RSC........ the service itself will pay back double in terms of adding value to such a sought after watch.

In terms of polish....... This is the million dollar question, how experience is the person doing it? I have recently seen some work done by a few independents and its been hit and miss. The miss was very very poor. The watch had no sharp lines, just completely rounded edges. It looked awful. I had the same watch on my wrist to compare it to and it looked like a totally different case.

Personally I would not use RSC but I’m lucky as a good friend of mine is a Rolex Tech and does all my work privately!

They are not trained or given the correct time frame to be trained like they was many years ago due to the current barrage of watches being thrown at them for works.

Stephen Hale has one of the best polishers in the business. But with that comes long lead times I’m afraid.

Bill Rice is another great watchmaker as loads can testify to on here..
