    One of these three......

Struggling to choose between the following three, a recent promotion says it's time to treat myself....

Nothing too special but watches that have been on my list for a considerable while.

    Speedy Pro Moonwatch

Breitling Superocean Heritage 2 (42mm probably) with the Blue face

    Tudor Pelagos - Black face.

I know ultimately it comes down to personal preference - but any views or reasons to go for one or the other?

At the moment I think I favour the Speedy, then the Breitling and then the Pelagos.....

Happy to buy pre-owned or grey for any of them if likely to make a huge difference...

Speedmaster as it can be dressed up and down due to how many straps are available for it.

Speedmaster all day long. Classic proportions, easy to read, works with everything except water, plenty of variety in terms of straps to change it up. It's a lot of watch for the money.

What is in your collection now?

I’d say it really depends if you have other watches and want to build a collection. All of those would be great so I’d buy the one that offered the most difference to what I already had

I can’t help you decide but all three are great watches but all completely different. I’m sure you’d be happy with any one of them.

Any of these would become my most 'valuable' watch

At the moment a Max Bill Chronoscope, a Chris Ward PVD Peregrine, a couple of Seikos etc

They're all great watches. I doubt that any would disappoint.

I would just say that having recently bought a Speedy Pro, I've made the decision that I don't need anything more.

I'll be keeping the Tag that my Dad bought me for my 18th for obvious sentimental reasons and a G Shock for the garden/holidays/larking around with the kids. And that's it. The Speedy is a very special watch.

Perhaps go and try them all on, if you haven't.

My guess is that one will look 'just right'

I think go try them on. It'd be the Breitling for me as well, looks great online (with the blue dial).

I own the speedy and its a great watch. If for some reason, you think its a little big, you can try the FOIS too. It has its own charm

They are very different watches and all wear differently. You need to try them on, they are chalk and cheese on the wrist.
The Speedmaster is big (ish) but wears small, the bracelet is ok but lacks any but the most basic (two positions) of micro adjustment, it’s hand wound and the crystal is a scratch magnet. It looks great on any strap.
The Pelagos is also big (ish) but wears its size.
It’s not light for a titanium watch and marks easily, however the titanium ‘heals’ itself, but not quick enough to be a daily wearer for me.
The lume is fantastic and the clasp is a work of art. The rubber strap is the worst I have tried bar the earlier Seiko rubber straps.
I enjoy both in my collection and neither are going anywhere soon.
I don’t have a Super Ocean, lack of a lume pip on a divers watch kills it for me.

On this point (because lack of adjustment on bracelets bothers me a fair bit), I’ve heard it’s reasonably easy to get an Omega tool-free adjustable clasp from an AD. Not sure of the cost, but it’s an option.

I think they are all equally good, but if you try them on, you will know which you like best.

As for the Speedy, it’s a great choice, except I haven’t bonded with mine, and I’ve given it 2 years! I think it’s because it feels too big, in a way my Submariner, 40mm Explorer II and 43mm Aerospace don’t. I think that means:

Try them on, it’s your wrist!

Don’t worry too much about residuals or ease of selling

Regardless of choice, I would use a grey dealer too

    Best of luck

    Dave

Of the three you mention, I'd vote for this...

Of the "downsides" so far mentioned; everybody on TZUK may have one or previously owned one but out in the real world they are far less ubiquitous than compared to something like a Seamaster 300. The hesalite is not a scratch magnet, but if you do scratch it, it's easy to touch up. The bracelet is not massively adjustable but at least on a new one you'll be dealing with screwed links rather than pins and collars. In any event, you may well be wearing it on something else for most of the time anyway. The only real issue is lack of WR. If you go swimming regularly or wear your watch in the shower, the Speedy may not be for you. Otherwise, assuming you've tried it on, and like it, it will give you years of pleasure.

Love the Speedie, still one of the best looking things out there - but no date and crap WR has made me sell it twice.

I have a blue superocean heritage and it's a stunner on the mesh.
Not a watch u can dress down though so if u want a Jack of all trades go for a speedy.

    Me I'd have em both.

    Can't take it with you.

    Enjoy

    Speedmaster all the way
They are so versatile and something nice about winding them up
Whilst i love tudors (i have a black bay) i found the pelagos a cheap feeling watch
Breitling i think you would soon get bored with

I understand it is. I wear mine on a SEB Velcro but I have the adjustable clasp on my SM300MC. It’s almost as good as the Pelagos clasp in a more refined (smarter) package.

    Pelagos.
I have a Pelagos and a Speedie, and despite being a Lemania collector, if I were to only keep one of them, it would be the Pelagos.
The Speedie is not an everyday-suitable watch, the miserable WR and hand winding make it a more specialised choice.
The Pelagos can go anywhere and do anything. Its WR mean you can wear it to do anyhting, and the incredible lume mens you can read the time from the other side of the room at night.
And it is very simple and restrained in its design. Austere, even.
It doesn't shout, it is much more designed to walk the walk than it is to talk the talk. And that is the right side of the fence for me.
The Breitling is a bit too shouty for me, but I haven't owned one.
And far from the above, I think the Pelagos doesn't feel cheap at all, it feels very well made indeed.

Cheers folks - plenty to think about.

Have tried a Speedy in the past and it fits well.

Need to get to a shop and try them all I think - see which one I fall for.

Pelagos is the better all rounder there imo.

Pelagos for me too. The other two wouldn't make the shortest of short shortlists.

    Have to agree with that.

Like someone else said, the FOIS should be considered instead of the Speedy Pro. Lack of the awful crown guard would make it much more appealing.

I have a speedy pro and I rarely wear it.

The Pelagos, well, I'd much rather have a BB58.

The Breitling I think is the nicest looking of the three, but it's big. I'd also prefer it in black.

It does depend a little on your collection. But I will nearly always recommend the Speedmaster unless you really need the water resistance. And most people don’t, even if they think they do... I mean I am in the water a lot and if I know I will be going in then I don’t wear the speedy, I will wear my garmin or something.

Main reason for the recommendation is just how versatile it is, so many strap options. Dress up and down. The design is great, some people say it is boring, I really disagree. Great design is great design and never boring.

I think you really need to try the Pelagos on . I remember the sales person building up the excitement only to see my crashing disappointment. IMO the weight didn’t work , nor the feel nor the cartoonish blue. I really did have an extreme reaction so reckon they maybe a bit marmite . The Blackbay was lovely I thought and I have the heritage so no knocking Tudor.
You can swim with a Speedmaster if you choose as they are 50m not 30m. I wouldn’t choose to though.
Manual winding is part of the fun I find so don’t let that put you off.
I’d suggest as well as the Pelagos , try the Blackbay along side the Breitling and Speedmaster. Of them all the Speedmaster is likely to give you more overall life simply because it’s such a classic so can grow old with you.

    SOH

My Super Ocean Heritage on Brown leather here. It is a 46mm though. :-)

Hope this helps with your dilemma...............I'm still looking for the right Speedie.

There s no doubting the Speedmasters credentials, but it has never held any attraction for me. Pelagos would be my choice. Possibly lacking a little for more dressier occasions, it remains the far more versatile all rounder of the three for me.

Old school printed dial, no date, hand wind, warm acrylic crystal, it's practically perfect.

I'm not a fan of the bracelet, it makes the watch wear much bigger and the two hole micro adjustment sucks. Luckily the OEM deployant and leather are first rate.

You need a Speedy and a Pelagos. Absolutely no need for the Breitling once the Tudor is in the house.

    Thank me later.
