    Rolex Seadwellers

Just spotted a very nice 16660 SD in the sales section, Can anyone tell me what the difference is between this model and the slightly later 16600 as there's not a lot of difference visually. Is either one any more desirable than the other, for example?

The triple 6, 16660 originally came with a matte dial and no white gold hour marker surrounds. Then later essentially the same style dial as the 16600 (all in tritium) - the only real difference being an update of the movements. Later the bracelets would update on the 16600 too.

The 16660 is more desirable, especially if it has the early dial, and was only in short production before the 16600 was launched.

Personally, I'd buy on condition and price between them, and would probably only buy the 16660 if it was an earlier dial version.
It's just a matter of time...

AFAIK the only 16660 on the SC is a thread resurrection from 2012?

There are two posts. One is a thread resurrection, the other is a recent sales post.

Which for anyone not up on their jargon refers to the quality of the steel. Higher in the later model (904L versus 316L). The 904L steel holds its colour and finish a bit better.

Triple-sixes has a bit thicker crown guards, tritium dials and wider bevel on the lugs. It also had the old movement caliber 3035.

Here's my writeup and brief summary of the 4/5-digits.

Great write up JPE, many thanks for listing. I really think another 16600/16660 is my next one in the collection (I stupidly sold my last-story of my life!). Gone are the days of picking them up cheap-a bit like my old air cooled 911s!

Many thanks for the writeup, JPE, which is a superb piece of work. That answers all my questions.
