Thread: Short Sleeve Shirts

    Short Sleeve Shirts

    All,

I'm looking for a few to update the wardrobe. Must have collars and not be too outlandish as would be for work and would wear with smart jeans, chino's, cords.

Has anyone got any suggestions for makes, sources please?

In this weather linen would definitely be a consideration as well.

    Best,

    Ben

Unless you work in a prison or a budget supermarket, short sleeved shirts are unacceptable.

I can’t wear a long sleeved shirt- always hated the restriction of the cuffs for some reason

I have Gant, Polo Ralf Lauern, Boss, John Smedley, Lacoste, Vivienne Westwood and Barbour.

    Gant are probably the best.

This. Roll up long sleeve shirts if you must but short sleeve “formal” work shirts have no place in any wardrobe.

Short sleeved shirts always remind of going on beach holiday in the 80's/90's.

The men always wore them at dinner and I came to know them as half board shirts.

I bought a linen shirt recently from M&S think it was £35. Fits nicely, well made. They have really had a good change of style shape and appeal to fit a slimmer frame too.
Don't think of M&S just for older men you'd be surprised if you haven't visited them in ages or are just a 'label' collector.

He’s giving him good life advice. Don’t wear short sleeve shirts if you value style at all.

The only person to pull off a short sleeve shirt with a tie is Sipowicz from NYPD Blue.

Would add coach drivers and mechanics to that list. Unacceptable choice imo. Just get long sleeves and wear rolled up 2-3x like all the other self respecting shirt wearing men.

They’re fine with casual gear, but not ever, ever with a pair of work trousers in the office. I’ve got a few short sleeve shirts for casual wear but will never ever ever wear one with a work outfit.

I watched Casino Royale last night and rate Daniel Craig second to Sean Connery on the James Bond list but he wore a short sleeved shirt and he looked like a tw4t.

Occasionally on holiday, sometimes on a Northern Soul night, but mostly look like its a shirt that wasn't finished and sold as a reject.......IMO.

Id rather a shirt with sleeves rolled just above the watch.

After Donkeys years of wearing drab green woollen shirts in summer with the sleeves rolled up and restrictive,I liked the introduction of short sleeves.
    I don’t work in a office though.

Far better than you’d think for the money- pure linen ones £25-35
Navy and white ones look way way better than you may imagine and last well

Neither of those are shirts though are they? One’s a polo. The other I have no idea what that’s called.

I took the different route after a 40 yr professional career that included long sleeves. From the day I retired myself, it turned short-sleeved shirts 7 days/week. Including those with fancy Hawaiian print (Tommy Bahama). Just to make a statement: "I can't be bothered with dress-code anymore!" (The tie went overboard about 15 yrs ago).

In hindsight: I should have made the switch to short-sleeved shirts together with ditching the tie. After ditching the tie, my teaching stayed the same. The same amount of pupils made it through their (Dutch equivalent) A-grades and those kids still listened to what I had to say without me wearing my tie. It didn't make a difference to them.

Short sleeve shirts are fine but not if you try to make them more formal, like with a tie or tucked in.
Casual summer wear but I wouldn’t dream of wearing one to a summer wedding or with formal shoes (brogues) or with trousers more formal than jeans or shorts.

The only person to pull it off is DC as Bond, even then it’s paired with linen and his shoes were brown suede so less formal.

What’s the issue with short sleeved shirts?........I wore them for years at work in a professional lab/office environment. I rarely wear long sleeves, I just find short ones far more comfortable and they can look smart.

Ben Sherman Oxfords were my favourite for work, or subdued checks.....louder check patterns for going out!

    Brown suede in daylight hours?

Short sleeves are as bad as button down collars. Leave them both to the Americans.

Short sleeves are excellent. Leave them to people whose countries have an acceptably warm climate during the year, not just a few days in Summer.

    Hello

    😂😂😂 😂

Maybe I should have asked this in the BP!

I'll have a look at JL and M&S.

I have smart light / dark brown shoes and also brown deck as shoes to wear in the ensemble.

I very rarely wear a tie these days or suit trousers / jacket. I think if I was then it would be a long sleeve shirt job.

Last week bought several bags of linen shirts (long and short) and pants (long and short) at Lidl. They are bound to appear in the UK shops as well.

One oversize they are thé best wear for hot weather. Ok, a lightweight djellaba excepted but the members here would get a brain fart about thát.

I really like J-Crew stuff, and especially when they have a sale on:

Looking at some of the stuff that appears on SC it might be best to search for fashion advice elsewhere!

In summer in the office in Malta it’s short sleeve shirt and chinos, or tailored shorts if it’s really hot and no visitors are due.

Always always long sleeves with cufflinks in Britain though.
