    Sky dweller

Any sky dweller ( new model) owners on the forum?
I’m considering a black dial model, how do they where in size.
    Any info would be appreciated.

I once tried a black dialled SS Skydweller on my 7"wrist a couple of years ago. I was seriously considering buying it because it was like buying a perpetual PP on the cheap. Seconds / minutes / hours /date /month and another time zone. Add to that a 72 hour reserve and 100m water resistance, it seemed the perfect watch. I also liked the look of it in pics and being the all purpose watch it is the ideal daily wearer.

However when I put it on, it looked like a saucer on my wrist and it looked totally oversized and almost stupid.

Sadly I walked away from it because I had to.

I am with Mick here on the Skydweller. Had the opportunity to purchase the Rose gold with anthracite dial, all the images online made it an appealing purchase but on the wrist, Christ it wears large.

Have to agree with above comments. I really wanted to like it given the complications for the price - its incredible value really - and probably why they are trading above list. Best to try first if you plan it to be a keeper.

Here's a picture of my Sub:

    and the SkyDweller:

Sure, it is a big watch but doesn't wear too large in my opinion. Certainly no bulkier than a recent Seadweller model for example.

Had the white dial for 18 months and love it. Average size wrists but not a problem. I’ve some great watches but interestingly this gets far more positive comments than all my others put together - especially from ladies. My wife would rather I just always wear it and none of my others.

Thanks for the feedback, the problem is I’ve been unable to try one on.
I have 7.5 - 7.75 wrist size and still am wondering whether the size may be to large.
I did own a sea dweller 43, lovely watch but to large for me as a daily.
As they prone is mark easier than a s/s?

When my partner first saw a Skydweller her reaction was ‘ugh.’ I tend to agree. I see it as too big, too fussy, no style.

I own one and it’s a great looking watch. Just a bit thick

I have owned the Sea Dweller 43 and currently own a sky dweller. The sky dweller definitely wears smaller than the sd43 and to my eye is a more rounded classic Rolex. Although it is elegant it is big and a considerable lump of steel on your wrist. It wears much bigger for example than a dj41. I would strongly recommend you trying one before committing.

Far too big IMO also. With the PCL and fluted bezel it very loud.

It's far less in your face than an sd43

I had the rose gold, chocolate dial and really liked it. Found that it wore fine, but then I have a deep sea and fifty fathoms in my collection. If you like larger watches, it will be fine. If your max is 40mm, then it may be too large for you

Disagree. I owned one for a year before upgrading my one six digit piece to a WG GMT blue dial. The SS SkyD wears very well, like an SD43 but with curved lugs, so a much improved fit to the contour of a wrist. An excellent modern Rolex, with a great vfm complication, in my opinion. The aesthetics are a matter of personal opinion. I loved them.

Great proportions - very expensive to service.

Interesting point. Any idea of the cost, for downstream owners?

I have heard £1200 - £1900 depending on what needs doing.

I asked this question to my AD two years ago when I was pondering whether to buy the Skydweller. The answer was that they did not know because no price had been established for the new SS model. However he said that he could not see it being more than £800 tops. This is one of Rolex's oldest ADs and they know what they are talking about.

I have no intention of buying a Skydweller so I hope you will understand if I do not put the question to them.

I also agree. It is a fantastic watch and, relatively speaking, a bargain at RRP.

Beautiful watch and the perfect complication if you travel or use additional time zone, I was very surprised that Rolex made the decision to make this watch in Bi-Metal and Steel variants as I always thought they would keep it exclusive to the upper end of the high flying market but am absolutely delighted they have and whilst the black dial is super cool and safe and looks great in any attire it is the blue dial that shines brightest.

Which isn’t really a show stopper, you would gladly spend £450 getting a £4-5k watch serviced so spending £750 every 8-10 years is not an issue

Absolutely, my sub was around £660 for the service including a couple of spare parts so this is not too bad at all in my book, around 21p/day.

If you like it then go for it....... The mechanics of the watch is brilliant.

I think the diameter is fine, its the thickness which may be a issue but if you have worn sports watches then im sure you will get use to it.
