WINNERS ANNOUNCED Raffle for Young Minds & Spread a Smile, Zenos, Seiko, Casio & More

Charity Raffle for Spread a Smile and Young Minds
Zeno PRS4Q-BK, Zeno PRS3Q, Seiko SKX009, Casio DW5600HR-1, Posh Car Pampering Stuff and more to come

    https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Som...LiftingSpirits

This fundraiser is for two charities that support and raise the spirits of young people who are going through the toughest of times. Once again several members have generously added to the prize pot.

    The Charities

More children and young people than ever before are reaching out for help with their mental health. Young Minds aim to ensure that all young people get the best possible mental health support and have the resilience to overcome life's challenges.

Spread a Smile is a brilliant organisation dedicated to improving the time spent by children in hospital. They provide a wide variety of entertainers in hospitals and make a huge difference to the youngsters by diverting attention away from their treatment, stimulating their minds and alleviating the boredom and monotony that is inevitable during extended hospital stays.

Many of the children are very seriously ill, with life limiting conditions, and the arrival of a Spread a Smile entertainer is an absolute highlight for them. Siblings attending the hospitals are also included in activities as they are often deeply affected by the illness of their sister or brother. Both of our daughters were charmed and distracted by the visits of the Spread a Smile entertainers whilst Laura was attending GOSH and UCLH for her cancer treatments. Laura’s sister was enthralled by an extremely professional magician. Laughter sometimes really is the best medicine.

    The Prizes

I think that we’ll let the ultimate winner choose between the two Zeno watches with the first runner-up getting the other one.

    1/2. Zeno PRS4 Q PVD
    1/2. Zeno PRS3 Q donated by Carlton-Browne
    3. Seiko SKX009K donated by Browners
    4. Casio G-Shock DW5600HR-1 donated by Craizeehair
    5. A very exclusive 2oz jar of Zymol Atlantique car wax donated by Suds
    6. A Christian Marclay 'The Clock' t-shirt in XL donated by nickk
    7. A load of Snap-on goodies donated by Neilw3030
    8. A lovely inscribed cleaning cloth from the Deutsches Uhremmuseum Glashütte donated by Carlton-Browne
    9. A brand new copy of the excellent little Jonathan Betts book on John Harrison

    The Raffle

To take part, please post in this thread and donate* £5 per entry here: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Som...LiftingSpirits

Feel free to take part multiple times and if you are not interested in the prizes, you are welcome to donate anyway!

Please include your TZ-UK user name in the comments if it's not obvious.

As usual, I’ll maintain a list of the participants here and will let this run for a fortnight.

Laura will personally draw the winners on Sunday 1 September, coinciding with the start of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month which is a time to highlight and support the numerous children who have been affected by cancer.

    Prize Details

Zeno PRS4Q PVD bought new by me in November 2017 through the group buy on this forum. Zeno is well known and respected in these parts and more information can be found using the search function. It comes on a Phoenix grey NATO and I’ll throw in the chunkier black NATO pictured. That group buy already raised a very respectable figure for the forum fundraiser.

Carlton-Browne has thoughtfully donated a Zeno PRS3 Q which looks to have originated from the same source given the warranty date.

Both are in great condition. The ultimate winner can choose between them with the other going to the first runner-up. Postage covered to anywhere.

Browners has very kindly donated a Seiko SKX009K with Strapcode Super Oyster Bracelet that he won in a previous raffle and has been worn just a few times since. The SKX009 needs little introduction here, it is a very highly regarded timepiece and popular with modders. This example has French as the second date wheel language and dates from 2015. It is still pretty pristine with just the odd strap changing mark.

Craizeehair has generously donated an absolutely corking and unworn Casio G-Shock DW5600HR-1. Part of the G-SHOCK Black x Red Heritage Colour Series featuring a unique layered band and red highlights on the dial.

Suds has kindly boosted the prize coffers with a very special 2oz jar of Zymol Atlantique car wax. I've just looked this stuff up, caramba!

nickk has considerately added a most appropriate Christian Marclay 'The Clock' t-shirt in XL. Brand new/unworn/with tags, it is the exhibition special edition with artist name, 'Tate Modern' and dates printed on the back.

Neilw3030 has very kindly added a load of Snap-on goodies! There's a Limited Edition Ratcheting Hard Handle Screwdriver, a gorgeous Ratchet Handle Torch and a Wrench Bottle Opener.

Carlton-Browne has provided a lovely inscribed cleaning cloth from the Deutsches Uhremmuseum Glashütte as a consolation prize.

I'm adding a brand new copy of the excellent little Jonathan Betts book on John Harrison (if you've already got it I'll come up with an alternative).

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Harrison-Jo...dp/0948065818/

Massive thanks to the prize donors and of course to Eddie (with best wishes for the recuperation).

    Matthew and family

    Brilliant, thanks!

I've documented a bit about Laura's cancer journey in a thread over in the Bear Pit as I wanted to keep it out of the public part of the forum at the time but raise some awareness of childhood cancer and particularly the amazing charities that have supported us throughout. She's now in full remission although there are some ups and downs due to after-effects of the chemo and radiation therapies. For those who have access and are interested, it's here: https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...rsonal-Message

Having spent an awful lot of time in hospital recently, I find the strength and spirit of the children very humbling. Best wishes to all involved.

It's turning out to be a beautiful Bank Holiday weekend, isn't it?

The Young Minds association is very close to my heart having a much loved nephew take his own life very recently. Love to Laura, good luck to everyone, and three tickets bought. (I forgot to add my name sorry on the donation, it shows up as "anonymous" with £15 and today's date).

Many thanks for sharing your heartbreaking experience. It really highlights the importance of the work of organisations such as Young Minds and Papyrus.

Thank you, it was simply awful. A few years ago we were very worried about him, but it seemed he had pulled back from the brink, we were obviously wrong. He was so loved by everyone and now sorely missed. Very happy to think our donations can hopefully help save even one young person and family from this dreadfull situation.
