    magnetized watch

Just bought a watch that was delivered to me by Royal Mail - the OP said the watch was running "to time" but when I received it the watch was running fast by more than 5 minutes per hour

On checking against a compass the watch "moved" the needle off it's position plus I downloaded LEPSI to my iPhone and I got a "magnetism detected" signal - so I presumed that the watch has been magnetized en route

I get one of those small Chinese de-magnetizing machines off Amazon when I get back from holiday to (hopefully) sort it out

    Anyone-else had this problem

I have one of the miniature demags
It worked well the one and only time I have used it.
Just follow the instructions that come with it.
I thinks it’s definitely worth try on a beater.

I have had a couple of watches that I thought were magnetised - as well as some tweezers and screwdrivers that I know were magnetised!

Having bought one of the small square magnetisers/de-magnetisers that I found totally ineffective, earlier this week I bought one of these:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It seems far more effective at doing the job.

Thanks, the watch is quite an expensive watch, not a beater

It certainly worked on the tweezers/screwdrivers.

I got this from FleaBay. Worked a treat on one of mine that suddenly started running at +5 minutes a day.

Came from China really quick and was £6.36 all in!

Yup, happened to me on a few watches that have come through the post. It's a minority but it happens sometimes. Don't know why.

A blue demagnetiser like NigeG's above has always solved the problem for me.

Same with me - I have one like the blue above and it worked well. The watch is not in a beater

I demagnetised several watches successfully using the blue lad. Most YouTube videos tell you to let the watch fully wind down before doing this. Of course I didn’t do that on the first watch but it seems to have escaped any damage

Has anyone tried this on expensive watches, or just beaters?

Maybe I am too paranoid, but on cheap watches I'd be more than happy to try, but on an expensive one I'd probably have second thoughts.

Also how would this affect something like a spring drive watch? Or how would you demagnetise a spring drive if it became magnetised? (Then again, how would you know, as the electronic side should keep it in check anyway)

I used it on my wife’s ETA Rado. Still married

That looks like mine - I got mine from AliExpress, and it de-magnetised my Unitas-movt Panerai a treat!

The cheapo blue one sorted my Panerai 312 a treat. I didn’t even consider it doing any damage tbh

I have used the same cheapo one on my watches with no ill effects - they sort out the magnetism just fine.
