Nostalgia - it ain't what it used to be...

Whilst walking through Hitchin this lunchtime i saw an original Wham bar in the window of Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe, which got me thinking...

What one thing would you bring back from your childhood if you could ?

Am I too old? I don't even remember the Wham bar!

If you mean sweets, the answer has to be flying saucers - or possibly those pink foam-like shrimp things - or the little gummy milk bottles.

Pineapple chunks and aniseed balls. But you'd have to be able to by them by the quarter pound and have them put in a paper bag

Black Jacks were my favourite. 8 for 1d which was my weekly sweet money in the late 1960s.

The wrapper had an image on it that is too offensive to post these days, but you can probably guess from the name.

Those collectible erasers that you used to get in all different shapes colours etc that had a REALLY specific scent to them.
I used to have a splendid rubber collection as a kid.

While looking for an image to post I came across this website, which has loads of old ice lolly images in it - most of which I had completely forgotten about.

Not many in there I would want to see return though!

Free aeroplane with Red Arrow. I'm guessing it wouldn't be a real Folland Gnat :-)

Mint Cracknel, I’ve never tasted anything like it since I last had some in the early 70’s.
2 little ‘credit card’ size wafer thin dark chocolates with a mint green cracknel in the middle
    that broke off in shards.

    Fruit Salad chews.
    Wig Wam crisps.
Quattro (the luminous green “fruit” drink).

Anyone remember Kunzel Cakes? A real treat from when I was very little in the mid 70’s.

And another vote for Fry’s Five Centres.
So clever my foot fell off.

M&S do all of the above in little packets
They even do the foam bananas
All true to the original taste and texture.

Opal fruits, a proper Cadburys caramel without the new milk chocolate recipe.
Desperate Dan bars. Golden cup bars also

I don't know if they are still available or not as I haven't lived in the UK for quite a while, but growing up in the Midlands it was possible to buy Cadbury's Misshapes - chocolates destined for boxes: Milk Tray, Roses, etc., badly formed but perfectly edible so sold off in bags.

I think my favourites have been listed. Texan was a biggy :)

Growing up in a shop, sweets, grocers, off licence - we were pretty spoilt.

Other days I enjoyed (could be a book)

    Banjo - coconut
Sweet tabacco (like sweet soft shredded wheat)
Proper Cadbury Turkish delight bars - we had to bring them back from Belfast when they stopped the proper bars here (just didn't taste the same).
Original blue Smarties - they were awesome!
    Double Dips
    Spangles
    Toffo - mmmm
The peanut cracknel in Quality Streets

    Far too many
It's just a matter of time...

We used to buy this when getting fish suppers for all the family from The Corbie fish and chip shop in Davidsons Mains. I remember thinking how mature I was to be eating RUM soaked raisins.

Is the Kraft recipe chocolate inferior?

    My grandparents.

Sweet wise another vote for mint cracknel. Had forgotten about that until this thread. And glees. I think they morphed into skittles at some point but never the same.

For fans of broken chocolate biscuits, The Range do packets and big boxes at very reasonable cost!

You get all sorts of types of biscuits inside...so someone told me...
