    Any tyre gurus?

    Hi

I purchased online (at a national fast fit auto centre) 2 x Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance tyres (91v)

I now notice they fitted 2 x Goodyear Eagle Sport (91v) tyres instead.

Have I been upgraded or downgraded?

    Thanks

What price are the ones they fitted?

What size are they (printed on side of tyre). Check on Blackcircles or Camskill to compare prices.

If your car is 4 wheel drive you should really use the same type of tyre all round.

This is a great site for all things tyres.

    Looks like what you got is a better tyre;

I'd say side-graded. It depends on what you want out a tyre. I'm guessing 205/55R16 so Golf / Focus sort of thing.
Eff-grip will be longer lasting, quieter, The others will be better handling, grippier.
If it were me, I'd go Efficient Grips. But then, I drive like an old woman.

Price wise, I'd guess no more than a fiver in it.

So a simple comparison with the price of the ones you ordered, and the ones they fitted will tell you if you overpaid or not.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

He never asked if he'd overpaid as I understand it ?

I thought that was what he meant by ‘upgraded or downgraded’.

No; one’s grippy and sporty, the other is less grippy but harder and longer lasting.

Was just looking at their names. Odd the 'Grip' tyre is apparently less grippy.

Whatever the spec, £112 for a pair of Goodyears fitted sounds like a great deal!
    Cheers..

It’s the “efficient” bit that gives it away!

Agreed it’s a good deal; I paid about fifteen quid more for a pair of Efficient grips just yesterday. Mine were 185/65 15s

Generally the more grip the less mileage when it comes to tyres, due to the rubber compounds, although some tread patterns do help. Something that has held true since the Michelin X and ZX, which lasted really well but weren't so good for grip, although better than their cross ply predecessors.

The info DOS wrote was, in my previous ignorance, what I really wanted to know wrt up/downgraded. Every day remains a school day here,

I had the efficient grips fitted to my daughters car. They are quiet to start with, but after a couple of years when they still had 6mm+ of tread they became super noisy. Plenty of reviews online from users that have found the same thing.

You've definitely been upgraded in terms of the tyres performance ability (mechanical grip).

I would check the date stamps on the actual tyres to ensure that they haven't been sitting at the back of the warehouse for 5 years though.

Also, your car might handle a little differently if you originally had 4 efficient-grips fitted.

Efficient Grip are effectively a Touring tyre. Pretty good all rounder, less rolling resistance so greater economy and longer lasting, probably quieter and softer riding. But less lateral grip, less traction and less braking performance than the Eagles which are a higher performance tyre.

Personally I’d be happier with the Eagles so in my mind an upgrade, but it depends how you drive.
