Box looks fake to me
Interesting thread started on TWF, and it rings massive alarm bells for me, but I've been wrong before:

Box looks fake to me
Im reading it and chuckling.
Calling the situation sus is defamatory and an attack on his character.
Ok mate, with your cousin, your carpet, your fake watch and fake box <eyeroll>
If that box is a fake, it's a very good one. Look exactly like a genuine embossed 68.00.08 box. The right box for a 90's DJ.
i am curious to know why people think it's fake?
The Buckley DJ Dial looks OK, as does the Rolex Metal Dial Tin as well.

Do fake dial boxes exist?.......if so I’m v. surprised. I gave a couple of genuine dial tin boxes, if they have value perhaps I should sell ‘em!
The paper package with the dial must be genuine......surely no-one would fake it.
Swapping dials used to be commonplace on Datejusts, less so thesedays because they’re expensive.

I suggest you do a bit more homework. That particular model of box existed for about 30 years and was supplied in many different markets, hence there are lots of variation including colours, inserts, stitching and even the embossing - some even have the crown embossed in gold. Variations in boxes is no different that variations in dials, because their production was outsourced to 3rd Parties.
Suggesting something is fake based purely on one photo is crazy unless you can give a very good reason - like for example it didn't have the Rolex reference stamped on the bottom of the box .

Everything can be faked if there is money to be made. I have seen some pretty poor Rolex fake boxes, but I don't believe this is one of them. A Moon Crater inner and outer box for a late 1680 for example could cost as much as £300, but the problem is aging the outer box so that it looks 40 years old. As for Tin Dial boxes, these typically sell for £15-20, so again could be faked. Personally I think I would put my efforts into making fake hand sets or clasps if I was in the fake business.
The paper packaging could again be faked if you wanted to give an air of authenticity to a fake Dial.

It's all good: box, dial, parts tin, hang tags. Genuine Rolex...
