There are some really nice colour variations... just wish Seiko would thrown in some ND models into their range.

I'm baffled - These look pretty much like most of the other SKX models, except in slightly different colours.

    Also, what does ND mean?

ND = No Date. Why do all Seiko's have a date?!

These are not SKX models, this is a new imagining of Seiko 5 if I'm reading the press release right.

Assume this is also a new Seiko 5 logo?

^ why can't we have a couple of these?!

Yes new logo. As far as I am aware these are not official successors to the SKX range, but seen as such by many due to the likeness.

Cute. Nice holiday watches, although that's my invariable justification for buying a watch these days.

Yup... not a replacement for an ISO dive watch. Display back, 100M WR, hardlex and I hear maybe no screw down crown even.

BUT if the price is right they will shift plenty.

And if you like to mod Seiko then there are some ok dials in the range. I don't mind the Superman 5 logo.

Aye, I hear that. Every year it's the same. I've bought two so far despite already having 'holiday' watches in abundance

Seems the catchy name for these is 5KX

Wow, they're really pushing their prices up. Nice as they are, at current exchange rates that's steep for a Seiko 5.

Indeed, haven't managed to establish whether it's a screwdown crown either.

There's two manual downloads, one for 4R36 divers and one for 4R36.

The one for divers show this case shape and a screwdown crown, the other for a 4R36 watch with the crown at 3 and non-screwdown.

Doesn't look like they call these divers anywhere!

I have always found the number 5 on the dial to be alittle off putting for some reason, but I do like the way that Seiko have done this. Presuming it is a 5 and not an S.

Not sure if it's the actual design, just my dodgy eyes or if they've been photographed on a slight angle, but they all look to be "shunted" over to the left slightly...

I am amazed that they couldn't get proper day and date alignment in press photos.

They look great (apart from the price for a Seiko 5). Let’s hope they have a screw down crown for that money.

I think they look ok, neither good nor bad, just kind of middle of the road.

If I didn't have "holiday watch" options I'd probably pick one up. (Or a 2nd hand turtle).

I guess the prices is partially to do with the rest of the lines moving up as well.

    Yes to this.

I’ve always thought the traditional ‘5’ emblem some what cheapened the look of the range. It stopped me from pulling the trigger on a few watches that I otherwise liked the look of.

This new version of the ‘5’ if it is indeed that, is much better.

I'd rather just buy an SKX. I've always associated the seiko 5 with smaller watches, and I'd have loved to see some of these in a 38mm or so case.

They will never be an skx especially not ISO rated.

If someone can help me realize the end of SKX as I just see it as a myth to flog more and up the price . There has been no official line from Seiko announcing it or had there ?

Aren’t they all wearing ironic Casio digitals or Apple watches?

They look nice, however I just don't know seiko well enough to guess the price. Some watches are a few quid, some are a few thousand I've no idea where these sit, I'll assume at the low end with an accuracy of +45 to -35 seconds per day which could be a bit annoying. I think I'd prefer a quartz.

    These are my favs:

I really like some of these. The new logo is much, much nicer that the 5 that doesn’t really have any relevance to most people. Most will just see a slightly off kilter S now, leaving the whole ‘5’ business to those in the know 

I can see one of these making it into to collection as a daily beater. Especially if they have a screw down crown, which I’d hope for given the expected, somewhat inflated, prices.

Don't want to be Phil neither . All these colour variations dilute the originals and turn it into something like a Swatch . Plus Seiko are getting in on the mod market slightly by saturating their line up with loads of dial options . Going all g shock with the flamboyancy.

No screw down crown I'm afraid. Just 100m w/r with a 4r36 movement. Still hardlex though .

That’s a real shame. Back to looking at pre-owned it is then. At least until some of these become equally pre-owned and drop in price a little

Anyone else loving the fact that some of the press photos dont have the bezels aligned? Gotta love a good chapter ring alignment issue otherwise it's not a true Seiko.

Ha that was the counter argument when people thought the rumours and pics came to light that they were fakes.

As soon as they seen the chapter rings it was ' 'ahh they are real Seikos'

Did Seiko even go as far to Photoshop in misaligned dials /chapter rings in line with their usual offerings . Good honest policy if so .

A Seiko 5 is not an SKX.

One component of the Seiko 5 brief is the date complication. Its required.

No date watches are only useful for people who don't wear the watch.

Like all the 5 range, shop around and you won't have to pay anywhere near RRP.
Screw down crown doesn't add anything at all to water resistance with Seiko watches, some others with a seal in the crown, but not Seiko. And 100m more than enough unless actually diving?

  39. #39
I detest screwdown crowns, on cheap watches they usually feel liable to cross thread if you’re not careful. 100m without is fine. If they’re £150 ish great, I fear it’ll be double that

    I can't imagine they'd justify ~£300 for a diver-style non-diver when a Turtle is around the same price.

I quite like them, especially the blacked out and blue versions. But that new logo - just reminds me of Suzuki.

Agree on the shouts re price - £300 is too much imo, granted its retail but still.

Bought this Seiko 5 a couple of years ago while on holiday, thinking it would be a good holiday watch. Never worn it since.

Can get away with this "Seiko" so it's no contest.
