Is it a metal detecting find (looks dug) or heavily circulated?
I have an 1864 shieldback sovereign and have been trying to ascertain its grading with not a lot of luck tbh. As no expert whatsoever I'm finding it confusing to say the least and was hoping for some guidance. Descriptions are going to be of little use so here are a couple of pics. Any numismatists out there ?

All I know is do not clean it.Collectors hate it!!
hi, do you mean to have it graded professionally by some one like NGC or pcgs ? condition would suggest not worth it , other than that it is considered bullion grade/ circulated based on images.
Phone Chards (01253 343081). They are bullion dealers and will answer any question you have.
Coin looks to worn for grading, gold is currently £1230 an ounce, a dealer would probably offer bullion value for the coin, which is currently around £290.
Thanks for the replies, took it to a sovereign collector I know and he rated it vg vg. Perhaps my photos are harsh. It certainly looks better in natural light.
