    Question for Seamaster 2254 owners

Recently been hunting for a rubber strap for the 2254 perfect for summer I thought. I wanted a genuine Omega one and wanted it fitted with a deployant. Looked at the options and read some threads on here previously I found the rubber strap that originally came with the 2254 was only rubber covered and backed with leather so not really water resistant. Finally settled on one recommended on here that is originally for the PO. Yet reviews was good and with a little fiddling it will fit.

Parts ordered and arrived my AD tried and tried and could not fit it. I contacted Omega customer services and they confirmed the strap would indeed fit... they generously offered to send out a bag and have the watch and strap sent to them so they could fit the strap!! Bonus!

After a few days of the watch being with Omega I had a call off them saying that they had fitted the strap the only issue is that the strap is just in contact with the rotating bezel and that it makes turning the bezel harder while wearing the watch.

Got it back and yep the bezel is almost impossible to turn while wearing.

Have any other people here who have fitted this strap had this problem? Is there a fix to it? Absolutely love the watch and strap combination!

The strap wasn't designed for that watch, hence the issue you're having. The best rubber strap option for a 2254 is part number 98000085 and buckle 94512012:

I think your problem is that they have given you a rubber strap designed for the 8500 derived movement Planet Oceans - which is thicker than the previous rubber straps for the 2500 movement Planet Oceans - hence it touches with the bezel! Incidentally the 8500 rubber in 20mm is an almost perfect fit for a 16600 Sea-Dweller ;)
It's just a matter of time...

That is a seriously good looking combo.

yes I have the same issue on my seamster with this strap. The watch is quite thin so the strap stops the bezel turning.

This is the answer... I’ve just sold mine. If you can wear a rubber watch strap, I don’t think there’s better.

Might this thread (link) be relevant? It says:

...The usual Omega springs bars have a diameter of 1.8mm. To to get this to work, you need 1.5mm diameter spring bars as pictured, with a gentle curve. I have a spring bar curving tool, but gently bending with your thumbs over the edge of a kitchen worktop would achieve the desired effect. Very little bend is required.

With these spring bars, fitment is very easy and they nicely slot in to the shorter lug holes of the SMP...

Just buy the correct strap for the watch.

Unfortunately long gone and wrong colour but you get the idea. Fitted and worked fine.

Thank you for that link. Reading that it confirms he has the same issues with the bezel being stiff. Useful thread thanks!

Don’t suppose you had the part numbers for that strap?

Sorry no, bought it from SC and sold it there after a while, so never knew the OE numbers.
