Yes really looking forward to this, with Amazons budget it should look amazing. Great to see other TNG fan favourites in the mix as well.

Looks good, not a lot of the old cast in there but seven of nine makes up for that.

I hadn't heard of this at all, but I am tentatively excited now.

The only thing that worries me from the trailer is the apparent "chosen one" trope. That is exactly the kind of thing that annoys me about the new Treks, which unlike the all of the older ones, have very little to do with actual sci-fi or the forward-looking, positive ethos that separates ST from all the other cookie-cutter space-fantasy stuff.

Still, Patrick Stewart, Jeri Ryan and Brent Spiner together should be good no matter what. So fingers crossed the script lives up to everything it could be.

Never be a Star Trek fan, preferring Star Wars but I’ve seen a few of the movies. However this looks good.

Looks interesting, and as already said, better than the recent film offerings. Slightly confused though, as I'm sure I spotted a wood elf from LOTR, and Wade Wilson on the slab?

Yep, I know I'm going to watch it, so I'd rather see it in full. Same with the Star Wars trailers.

I'm sorry Picard and Next Generation are the only Trek series I can't stand. It was just too 80s for me, with an unappealing set of characters. Patrick Stewart, if that clip is anything to go by, looks a bit past it and slightly befuddled - okay it could be acting but the man didn't even know whether he'd been circumcised!!

An excellent opening episode in my opinion.

And sky high production values of course.

Just finished watching it as well. Very promising start. Some absolutely outstanding acting by Patrick Stewart. No spoilers, but I'm talking about the interview scene especially. Can't wait to watch the rest of this. It's a shame they aren't releasing it all at once, as that would definitely have been my weekend.

  35. #35
My goodness, what a superb opener.
I'm not going to discuss too much for the benefit of not too 'live long 'n prospered' new folks to the TNG universe.

Stewart was superb again as Picard, and hopefully the series will be a hit.

    Good work Amazon prime 👍

I've been watching through TNG this last couple of months, nearly finished the third series. So it may be a bit weird to see Picard thirty years older interspersed with that, but I shall give the first one a go later on.

I will say I am a fairly die-hard Star Trek: The Next Generation enthusiast who has watched through all episodes multiple times, so I guess I have more of an emotional attachment to characters like Picard and Data, etc beyond it just being a TV programme I like as I watched the series as I went through my early teenage years and I think I always admired the morality lessons the show taught. Anything that isn't just 'Next Generation' like is always going to have an up hill battle against fans like me so I guess I have high expectations.

Kind of hard to gauge just from one 45 minute episode.. I'm happy it's immediately referencing back to The Next Generation, that key characters have already appeared or been referenced, and I'm interested to see where the series goes. The closing shot was rather intriguing as to how that plot line comes together. I have some mild concerns about some of the things referenced already in terms of how they seem extremely tenuous but.. again.. I'll have to give it some time to play out.

I think I'd give the first episode a fairly solid... 7/10?

I've thought about going back and watching some TNG, but I can still remember the shock to the system of watching the final episode of TNG (All Good Things...) on the BBC and then the following week tuning back in to the first ever episode (Encounter at Farpoint), It was a little... jarring.

I think there is one obvious plotline or arc that is going to underpin the first season, but how that plays out and where it will go from there is intriguing.

Given that this first episode is really just setting the scene, I am looking forward to getting stuck into the meat of the ten part season.

He actually still fits into his Uniform (he put one on recently at a con) - it is just like a lot of people his face has sagged as he has aged..
