Truffles FTW
I am not generally in the habit of paying silly money for luxury treats, but have lately discovered Grom gelato. £7 for a not very big tub.
IMHO worth every flipping penny. Choc and vanilla being my preferred ones.
Any suggestions for other seemingly overpriced food that's worth big money?
Truffs, black caviar, chatka crab, sturgeon, game, fresh fruits, vintage wine/bubbly and quality chocks all worth premium IMO
Fas est ab hoste doceri
I'm always happy to pay for jamon iberico de bellota, bloody love the stuff. IMHO it's worth every penny and it tastes sublime when carved off the bone.

Incredible
Find a good butcher (if you aren't a veggie / vegan that is) good quality meat is always the most important thing when cooking something special.
Most weeks I buy a couple of aldi steaks, if you look hard enough you can find some with reasonable marbling and with a bit of seasoning they make for a cheapish quick dinner. On occasion though I visit the local farm shop butcher and get similar cuts of vastly better quality, prepared the same way they are magnificent.
I also like to brows the local farmers markets and speciality markets there are some lovely cheeses and hot sauces for example made by small producers that are out of this world.
Waygu steak is worth every penny.
Also duck fat for roasties instead of oil.
Barkham Blue cheese is just lovely. Unfortunately, the nearest local stockist is a 30 minute bus trip away, and I don't drive. So it's not often I have it, but when I do, I enjoy every crumb.
I hosted Christmas last year and spent the few preceding weeks testing out different oils / fats for the perfect roasties.
Rapeseed oil produced great tatties. I went with fat as it felt more 'special'.
Vegetable oil was also good but made the kitchen smell of a chip shop!
Sherbert lemons! Used to be my go - to suck.
