It does look like it might be what reviewers would call "a fun jaunt".

Dunno about the movie itself but the trailer cleverly included lots of references that fans would like. The Tomcat at the end was a nice touch.

I wonder what aircraft he was in while wearing what looked like a pressure suit.

Can’t wait, original remains my favourite film & must watch it every few months. Loving the fact it hints at so many references etc.

    Red face

Really?! Every few months?! It's an O.k. film - but once every 10 years is enough for me. :)

It looks like it will be fun but, unfortunately, I suspect that it will end up being a tame, PC re-hash of the original.

I imagine that TC probably did most of the flying himself. He certainly did in the last MI film (to the extent that he flew over 3000hrs in an AS350 so that he felt that he was sufficiently experienced to attempt the stunts. It didn’t mean, however, that any of the pro pilots on the film ever wanted to fly with him though!)

The trailer did nothing for me I'm afraid. I expect the film will be loads of cool plane stunts and a whole load of Tom Cruise cheese.

It will get plenty of flack but it will be a bit of nostalgia and a bit of fun.

Why? The last mission impossible was a commercial and critical success, and a bloody good film.

Hollyweird has definitely run out of ideas, Top Gun isn’t even a good film, and now a "reboot" for a pensioner pilot, oh please no.

Who cares about the plot or the acting. The flying sequences given the advances in CGI etc will probably be stonking! The Hornets are nearly as sexy as a GR1 banking on a run through the Highlands.

I thought that was the idea, no CGI in this one, all real!

Why's he wearing a pressure suit?

Apparently, although most of it will be live action, there will be some CGI:

Top Gun was the first film we bought at college when we got a vcr in the common room at college. We must have watched it countless times. Perhaps the pinnacle of 80's cheese. "Hollywoods ok, I want Viper"

I vividly remember my younger brother invited me down to his 1st house when this (original)came out (must have been on vhs)
He had a 5.1 system he’d spent most of his wages on all rigged up- the sound blew me away literally - the neighbors weren’t impressed though
    Boy I wanted a GPZ 900

If it’s imax 3d it could be good, but times have changed. We don’t view military pilots as the hero’s they once were.

Now they occasionally escort an errant Russian jet or drop a computer guided bomb on an oil state target miles away.

Top Drone will be the next one, when a geriatric Tom Cruise saves the world from his bedroom.

Homoerotic topess male volleyball. Will "In The Navy" be the theme tune? :-)

Ed Harris is looking old. He is 10 years older than Tom Cruise ...

Will it feature bombing of that hospital in Afghanistan, TV station in Belgrade or gunning down civilians in Iraq? Asking for a friend.

I’m going to guess he starts the movie as a U-2 pilot but gets recruited to F-18 because they can’t really make an interesting movie about sitting at 70,000ft in a U-2 for 8 hours floating about with a 2kt coffin corner margin between mach buffet and stall.

Perhaps not completely unintentional, considering a large part of the like demographic target of this movie. A fortuitous coincidence, of sorts.

Given that it has Tom Cruise in it wit all practical effects, as well as it apparently being a "love letter to flying" im very much hyped

I've waited 34 years for this!

Maybe it was being 15 when it came out meaning it hit the adolescent sweet spot that anyone younger or older just don't get

Love him or hate him you really can't deny that Cruise goes all-in to make the ride as thrilling as possible; quite possibly the single remaining movie star IMO.

    Top Gun Maverick

I admire his dedication as an actor.

When it came out it just looked fantastic. F-14s launching, dog-fights, the ethos of Top Gun. Just watching that flight deck operation was great. I later found out you could join the US Navy and get citizenship. I would have liked catapult or the guy who gets the salute and then touches the deck. Or the guys who co-ordinate the flight deck. Not too dangerous in there but v.responsible.

He is still looking good and seems to take his craft seriously. I presume he has some nice toys?

Watched the trailer and my thoughts turned to Kelly McGillis and what she would look like today. Disappointing! The years have not been kind.

Personally I will watch pretty much anything with Tom Cruise. A proper A Lister and seemly nice guy when interviewed on Top Gear, etc. A real world Peter Pan.

I liked the original and thought it was such a cool film how it was made, also backed by a great sound track, I was in my early teens when it came out so looking forward to this film on the big screen.

Yes TC is not liked by all and I think his closeness with Scientology def adds questions, but you can’t knock the guy for commitment, getting in character and the training he undertakes to produce good films that will ultimately entertain us..

Must take a trip to Wales one day to see this free Airshow!

This looks like it might be one to watch on the big screen!

The aerial photography looks a significant step up from the original (not surprising given 30 years has passed)!

Tom Cruise is truly repulsive and makes my skin crawl too. Despite that I seem to enjoy most of his films. He has that thing that makes me forget he is TC and I end up believing in the character. One of the greatest actors of all time in my book. Looking forward to seeing the new Top Gun too.

No doubt those flight scenes will shake some nerves and rattle some brains.

I just hope they haven't ruined it.
