    Zenith 1969

I’ve long had a hankering to find a replacement for the Zenith I stupidly sold some time ago. I really like the 38mm 1969 El Primero, great size, great movement and it’s not a Rolex..

Pretty much set on the blue dial, on a bracelet, but will try and get the black strap and deployant to give it a different look.

Like I say, it’s the Blue dial for me, although I’m quite taken with the grey, so if one popped up at a favourable price I wouldn’t be to bothered.

Interested to see which dial combos others prefer..

    Blue
    Grey
    Silver
    White

Sorry I cannot help but one word of advice is to see and try it out in person as sometimes web images can be misleading.
Here is my 42mm El Primero "Champagne" dial.

I like the style, but personally I would prefer the sub dials to be the same colour

Blue dial, and I'd have one already were Zenith to do a non-date version. They don't, so I don't.

    What size is your wrist?

The 42mm doesnt wear that big ( my wrists are approx 6.5inches )

6.75”, but I’ve already decided I prefer the original 38mm size..... much like the 36mm Datejust I chose over the 41mm.
I just think the smaller size suits me better.

I may change my mind on colour and go with the Grey, I won’t be changing it regarding size..🤓🤓

Absolutely love these, silver would be my favourite closely followed by white.

I have the silver dial version, great watch, but it's hard to read the time at a glance because of a lack of contrast with the hands.

That's not an easy choice! I think I'd go silver although if I was concerned about legibility it would be the blue.

White, I will add one at some stage.

I can’t see white dial on the zenith site?

I've always liked the silver dial but could see that legibility may be an issue.

One of the reasons I sold my old one was legibility or the lack of it.... what a mug, I should have just put my glasses on

Silver the pick of the bunch for me but the blue is a close second.

I'm pretty sure the silver and the white are the same watch under different lighting.

Thanks for this...... looking at the codes, I’d say you’re spot on... the what looks like white is silver

So I need to add the silver and white together which makes it the clear winner for those that voted..

Agree with the OP regarding the size, 38mm is ideal for this style of watch. I think silver or grey are the best choices, I’d probably go for silver because it’s more ‘classic’. I would buy with the bracelet option but fit a nice black semi-matt croc or alligator strap as an alternative.

I have a 20 year old El Primero and it’s the best timekeeper I own, an excellent watch and a real design classic. A bit tricky to work on but I like the philosophy of designing the movement to be as slim as practicable.

LVMH are far more helpful with regard to parts supply; although the parts can be expensive they are far more accessible for repairers. Servicing costs in the future should therefore be lower because you’re not tied into the manufacturers service centre or accredited indys.

I would normally head towards the Blue as a natural first choice, but looking at the pics in the OP the Sub dials on the Silver dial just look the business and are more stricking than the layout on the Blue dial.

I do like the silver dial, but for my ageing eyesight, there’s not enough definition between the hands and the dial...they sort of blend in a bit to much for me, spoiling the legibility.

Thanks for the comments and votes folks.

I’ve made my decision, and as the grey is the least popular that’s what I’m going for.... I just think it’s the most legible, and as I sold my last on due to lack of legibility, I don’t want to make the same mistake again..

Anywho, I’ve negotiated reasonable deal with a local authorised UK agent, so I’m going for it.

Silver would be my choice, with the open dial.

I know some don't like it, but who cares?

Very nice. I've just sold my explorer so for the foreseeable future, my zenith 1969 is going to be my one watch. Might treat it to a nice rubber or nato strap to switch things up a bit

Well that’s the order placed, and deposit paid.....delivery will be end of Aug beginning of Sept due to Swiss holidays..

But fair does to the AD, they did me a sweet deal on a genuine Zenith strap and deployant so I can change the look with a complete package..

Gray sunburst is great, and it's also really great that on this model they've given the chrono minutes priority over the hours where they overlap

    Good choice :)

...and my favourite. My 49 year old A386 el Primero only loses about 30secs a month, and as far as im aware has only been serviced twice in its lifetime (hope I havnt tempted fate now!) :)

    Incoming

Well the poll showed that the grey dial was the least popular..... but that was the one I liked the most, so here it is.

I could have bought from a grey, in Germany, and saved a few quid, but I’d much rather support a local shop if possible, so I got a nice deal from a local AD, that included the genuine croc strap, and the lovely Zenith deployant, so that was it..

The centre panel of the box doubles as a small carry case which is a nice touch.

The watch itself, has exceeded my expectations, I think it’s going to look fantastic on the bracelet or the strap, so I’m looking forward to giving this lots of wearing

The 38mm size is just right for my wrist

Then finally a shot of the famous el Primero

They are fabulous watches. I have both the strap and the bracelet for my 42mm

Juat watch the screws that hold the strap onto the back of the deployant... I lost a screw and had to go back to LVMH

Thanks for the heads up...... sizing the bracelet was interesting. Lovely thing, but having to use 2 screwdrivers to remove those tiny screws isn’t the easiest way I’ve ever removed links..

    That is just class.

I think any of them would have been awesome but I think the grey is a great look.

Prefer on the strap too. The polished bracelet is ott for me but I'd much rather have it in the box than not ;)

    Wear it in good health!
