    Got the call today

from my wife to say that a parcel had arrived from Cyprus. Obviously it's a watch but this particular watch took me many years to find - see this thread for more details: https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...ou-really-want
I first spotted it in a Los Angeles shopping mall and instantly wanted it. Not for the price they wanted for it, mind. I suppose I could have bought it brand new for around £1300 (and even then, it rarely appeared) but I thought I'd hang on for a second hand example to turn up on an eBay auction. I ended up hanging on for 5 years...

So here it is: the Movado Datron Automatic. I'm not even a fan of Movado but hell, I love this watch.

The bracelet isn't comfortable but that's purely down to the butterfly clasp digging into the back of my wrist. Butterfly clasps always do this to me - I hate them.

Pretty thin for an automatic chronograph.

Pain in the arse lug size of 21mm. Luckily I have a couple of spare Pav straps from an El Primero I recently sold so blue with white stitching it is.

    That’s a nice looking watch
The date at 12 is a nice twist

Well done, it's always great when an excessively long hunt for a wanted watch turns up trumps.

    Nice watch, enjoy 👍

Very nice indeed. I thought Movado was a kind of sugar...

Thanks. It's hard to see from my pictures but the date wheel is actually the same colour silver as the sub-dials.

Movado makes some nice automatic watches that don’t get the attention they deserve. It surely is a good looking watch. Enjoy it. I have one that is a little more bling but very well made and I enjoy wearing it.
Movado has a rich history that gets overshadowed by the Museum nonsense.

Here is a reminder of its past glory

A fella on a French forum has been trying to sell his, new with box and papers, for the last month. He started at 1250 Euros and is now down to 1000.

The old El Primero powered divers and Datrons were true classics. Crazy money nowadays though. Mine is based on this one:

If it's the Silver with black sub-dials model and it gets below 700 Euros please let me know ;)

It's not, it's the same dial as yours.

Mmmm … that's lovely. Almost a Glycine SST case but shorter lugs so it actually fits the wrist, and a more human overall size.

Shame about the bracelet. I've never understood the butterfly clasp – it's like a designer's bad joke as it feels less secure and means you can't get a perfect fit.

Is it the 7750 or a module on top of an ETA? Looks too slim for a 7750.

Great looking dial on that one, nice that it’s a bit slimmer than usual.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

    That is lovely.
Had only ever seen Movado models from the knock offs on Canal Street in NYC!

That was lucky, don't usually click on "I got the call" threads but not only is this not a rowlecks but it's a pretty cool watch too. Pretty unusual, I like it.

As above ^^^^^ nice to read of someone 'scratching an itch' that's not a load of 'Rowlocks'.

You know it’s “right”, when it’s not, but you still love it.

    Congratulations

That’s a lovely looking watch. I’ve never come across Movado before but then again, this forum has sent me off on an internet research project many times in the short time I’ve been here!

Enjoy wearing it. I know I would.

    I got the call today.

My mobile went and I can't tell you how excited I was when I saw it was my AD!

I'm on the (non-existent) list for 2 watches - Watch A (which is what I want most) and Watch B.

The call goes "It's X from AD Y. You've expressed interest in Watch C. Just wondered if you are still interested."

Me: "Watch C? Do you mean Watch C and not Watch B? I have a Watch C. You know I have a Watch C."

Them: "Oh, I'll amend our records."

Felt like I'd been kicked in the whatsits! Really thought I was going to finally get a new watch after a very long wait!

First world problem but talk about high to low in 30 seconds!

I mistook it for a generic “call” thread! Didn’t want to start another for my trivial rambling!

Won’t say to protect the innocent but unsurprisingly, since they got round to calling me, one I could probably pick up relatively easily at any AD where I had zero track record!

How strange that you didn’t react badly to post #29 but did to mine.

The comment about my parents is completely uncalled for and you should be ashamed of yourself.
