A bloke in the office has alloys that look exactly like that....

Those of us of a certain age might remember that people used to attach stocky out bits of wire to there wheel arch so they could hear when they were close to the kerb.

You can still buy them off ebay!

Mrs WORKSIMON treats alloys and bumpers as consumables
    Cheers

Black alloys = accident waiting to happen imho. Must be a lovely little earner for car co’s. My wife totalled an alloy when sneezing hard whilst going round a corner in central London - to be fair it was one of those crazy kerbs where anything higher than an SUV would scrape the door bottom if you parked by the kerb. Personally I preferred the old days of ugly steel wheels and a cheap plastic cover!

I watched a lass whack a brand new 5 series with 19’s on up a kerb this morning outside school at about 10mph – literally felt sick for her husband.

Maybe it was her car bought with her money.

I don’t think it matters, my wife views cars as white goods, use them and if they stop working replace them.

Amazing amount of mysogeny here and in the OP!

I'm a man (and bought my own car too!) and my alloys dont have an un-scratched area on them. They look angle-ground.

Same with the bumper - it's what the bumper is for.

But then I dont have same level of anal-retentiveness about cars and watches when they get scratched, nor the need to have a pristene 'trophy' watch / car.

Used to have nice cars with rubber band tyres.....always worried about panels getting scratched or dinged or wheels kerbed.

    Now im shedding IDGAF...lol

In fact I dont think there is one panel on my current car that hasnt got some sort of damage and its on steelies so no worries.

    Kerbed alloy

I kerbed the recently refurbed gold alloy on my minty 2005 Prodrive Impreza WRX a few weeks ago. I’ve not done it for years, then within weeks of refurbing them I did it twice! Argh!

And I am a man. A manly man who can reverse park and treats his cars with more than a healthy level of care usually. So not just the wifeys who can f things right up.

The one thing the other half does that makes me boil, is put things on top of the car whilst she opens the door - handbag with zip pockets, or purchases etc. - then just drag it off the bodywork afterwards. I nearly die every time, to the point of warning her numerous time once we reach about 19ft from the car, right up until we get in ;)

You are missing my point. My original quote was to a poster who wrote ‘I felt sick for her husband’. I was simply pointing out that if it’s her car bought with her money it’s got sweet FA to do with her husband.

    Certainly not from me.

It was a woman driving the car and had my wife done that to one of our alloys, I’d have been pretty angry.

Who bought and paid for the car is irrelevant

This. My wife reminds that it’s s her car but that’s not the point. I always try to look after what I own regardless of what it is or what if cost.

My mates wife called herself Brembo, it was at times she could get any attention during race season, even if she wasn’t the Brembo he was referring to.
