    Coleslaw Maker/Chopper

I enjoy making coleslaw. Every so often I will make a large bowl of it then separate it out so that I can add different flavourings like cheese, cumin, peri-peri etc.
I like to cut the cabbage really fine and shred the carrot quite small as this adds flavour and makes it more pleasant to eat.
But this is labour intensive and I'm looking for a power chopper which will slice fine and grate small primarily but if it does other stuff that can only be an advantage.
So, any recommendations? Yes, google-like reviews are useful but there is nothing like user experience.

If your budget permits I would suggest a magimix.

Before going down the power option/ food processor type things it might be worth looking at one of the better mandolines on the market you can adjust the thickness of cut etc and some come with the attachments for various julienne sizes

I just use a food processor. Takes seconds.

I agree. We have one - and a separate Magimix blender. But... there's an OTT amount of pieces, gadgets etc. All are nicely stored in a bespoke plastic container, but -when not in every day's use- it takes up a lot of space and dust, so to speak. That Zylizz-tinghy looks promising. My mom used to have a predecessor of that Zylizz thing: a chopper with a 'meandering' knife in the lid that you have push down hard and quickly. Worked perfectly for chopping, not blending.

I find food preparation quite therapeutic so I'm rarely in a rush. A very sharp chef's knife and a grater are all I need for preparing coleslaw.

I have to agree with what the Guvnor says here.

Ditto steak tartare- there is definitely something therapeutic about making that with nothing more than a good sharp knife.

I have a KitchenAid food processor with all the various shredding attachments, but still ALWAYS use either a sharp chefs knife or a Benriner mandoline (with kevlar gloves!) for coleslaw as it does a much better job and is MUCH faster to clean afterwards.

The kevlar gloves are fantastic at saving your fingers.

I have to say those mandolines scare the bejesus out of me! With a knife at least you can see how close the sharp bit is to your fingers.

We have loads of different appliances and limited room to store. I just want something to throw the ingredients in, press a button and instant finely shredded cabbage and carrot.

These are what you need then:

I wouldn't dare to use my mandoline without the gloves on.

Trust me, you only cut yourself once then you show the thing the respect you should have done in the first place!

My wife makes coleslaw with her hand operated spiraliser gadget, it’s pretty good, personally I use my Magimix 3200. Plus with a good processor you’ll make up a decent mayo too. I love the Magimix.

I do it in our TM all the time. Just have to be careful to only chop for 4-5 seconds otherwise it's all gone.
