Sent from pocophone with all those watches.
Hello everyone,
my brother's wedding will be in some time and I really don't know which watch to wear. My outfit will be a really classic white tuxedo. Usually when wearing a tuxedo, you are supposed to wear a classic watch but I don't really have one. The only one fitting would be my cartier tank, but I feel like for an event like that, a bigger watch would be better (don't ask me why). Also the cartier tank is not my most favorite watch since it's pretty small. The following options came into my mind and I also think these would fit:
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore (rose gold and black dial)
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Moonphase all ceramic
Hublot Unico Sapphire
Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari Sapphire
I would love to hear your thoughts and advices.
On a side note, what you guys think about Hublot since there are so extremely different opinions shown in social media etc?
For me, Hublot still makes pretty cool pieces and I think they definitely deserve to be in this industry.
Greetings,
Raphael

The correct etiquette when wearing a Tuxedo is that you don't wear a watch at all.

Post pictures of them all and create a poll, we shall then vote!
respectable opinion

Yep, I know. It's not the most classiest look, but I still think that it looks nice. But anyway, still a respectable opinion.

I'm only pulling your leg, let's see some pics of the watches in question.
Would love to, but unfortunately I'm in London right now and I don't have them with me.
The only watch I have is my cartier tank.

Im sure we can wait for some wrist shots, if only to judge how they wear.
I think you're the first watch nerd I've come across to not have a ton of watch and wrist shots on phone. Ive had to buy extra cloud storage!
Alright, I'll be back in Monaco next week tuesday, pictures will follow.

So I'm definitely not the basic watch collector.
I rather enjoy wearing my watches and looking at them in person. Pictures usually don't do justice. I don't upload any of my watches on Instagram etc. because of safety reasons.
I've been robbed three times before and I'm fed up of it. Those events made me really anxious.

An all ceramic watch with a white Tux is a look Id like to see - could work.
It's just a matter of time...
Also my nr. 1 at the moment.

Yep, it will be in cannes.

Wear whatever you are most comfortable wearing.

6538 on undersized nylon. It was good enough for Sean ;-)
To be blunt, no-one at the wedding is likely to care what watch you are wearing. Best not to wear one at all. And certainly not something bling and attention seeking.
The bride and groom are the centre of attention, the rest are the background, so just blend-in.
Since a tattooed Scottish milkman wore a diver’s watch with a white dinner jacket, anything goes.
A bunch of you have correctly stated that traditional (British) etiquette suggests no watch at all for formal functions. There are a couple of reasons for this-
1, black or white tie is intended to be a uniform for men in order to show off the ladies’ couture and jewels. This is old fashioned and a bit sexist but it is the tradition.
2, at a formal event you are a guest (usually at a wedding the guest of the bride’s parents) and as such you don’t need to know what time it is as they will have invested in entertainments and refreshments and an MC or similar mechanism to inform you of when you need to move between them.
However we are no longer a slave to 19th century traditional and etiquette can change; for non-traditional events where a dress code is not specified, feel free to wear whatever you fancy. However if a dress code has been specified, and it is formal, you have a digital choice between following it (no watch) and ignoring it (any watch). No analogue.
You have some lovely watches that suggest you’re doing well, there are a million reasons why you might want to thrust that in the face of other guests at the wedding and I wouldn’t castigate you for that. However, discretion is the better part of valour in this case matey.
Good luck and have a great time.

You could be right. But still I want to have a flawless look, even if it's only for me.
But you're absolutely right, the center of attention should be the couple who gets married.

I think you need a dress watch
That's probably the most pleasant answer I've received so far. First of all, I greatly appreciate that you took your time for clarifying and explaining. It suggests that you are quite well educated regarding this a topic. I will definitely keep your advice in my mind.
Thank you very much!

Maybe I'll definitely need to take it into consideration, still not 100% away from my originally suggested watches. I really think the Moonphase all ceramic could be a cool option.

Not sure what they look like, let's see some pics and have a vote.
Pictures will follow next Tuesday.
Not at home right now.

With that collection - go and buy yourself a moser or calatrava and wear that
or
as others have said - wear whatever the hell you like. I've seen sports watches worn with DJ/Tux's and damn good they have looked too.
It all depends really - is the wedding going to be traditional or more flamboyant?
Small and subtle.

I didn't plan on buying a watch specific for that wedding, because usually I'm a sportwatch type of guy. The classiest watch I own is a cartier tank.
The wedding is not really going to be all too formal, everybody will go crazy in their own way.
I'm still gravitating towards the sports watches like the unico or the mp-05 or the Moonphase.

Understandable opinion, will take into consideration.Sent from my POCOPHONE F1 using TZ-UK mobile app
You're wearing a Tuxedo to a wedding? Unless it begins after dark, that's entirely the wrong thing.
Thank you very much for the warm welcome!

The wedding starts at 10 AM but I will only attend the evening party. So in that case, the tuxedo dies fit.

Taking professional wrist shots, right?
Sent from my POCOPHONE F1 using TZ-UK mobile app
No, I was of course invited for the whole party but I just can't make it, because of a business trip before.

Come on, Hublot isn't that bad. I really enjoy them.

True words my friend.

If you really want to go for the classic look and remember no one will be looking at your watch, so it will be purely you looking at it and remember the significance to you . Then it’s vintage dress watch in my opinion. Longine closest in terms quality as a mass produced watch, to Patek 50’s early 60’s. 1200-1800 Euro . Omega best movements they ever made arguably up to very recent times 1200-3500 Euro. IWC 1500- 3500 Euro. VC 3000-6000 Euro. PP 7000-upwards . AP 3000 - 6000 Euro
Take your pick they are classic , beautiful , often hand finished and never to be made again.
