My life as a film star

In 1975 I appeared in short film which went on general release with "The Man Who Would Be King", starring Sean Connery and Michael Caine. My Oscar nominated performance is shortly after 10:30.

.......007 found it harder to blend in when undercover in suburbia.......

On a more serious note, it must have been a great experience to be part of that. ;-)
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Filmed in the days when you could drive straight into a military establishment car park without so much as a barrier in sight!

So the only filmed evidence of your military career is in a pub?

    More seriously, it looks impressive.

I really enjoyed that, thank you. What a privilege to be part of something so unique.

Eddie, can I ask, did you have regular military training alongside all of the ceremonial work? Or would this have been something you’d be assigned to for a period and then go back into a regular unit?

I only had 10 months in The King's Troop, almost 9 years in regular units.

That was the WO's and Sgt's Mess, not a pub!

I used to attend meetings at Wellington Barracks occasionally and, as long as I was wearing a suit, carrying a tightly-furled black umbrella and had a fairly short haircut I would normally get in without ID and would usually get saluted as well. The last time I did this was probably around 2011/12.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

My father was Kings Troop RHA in the 1950's.
So clever my foot fell off.

Somebody would have known him when I was there, people often spent 20 years plus in The King's Troop.

Very likely - he loved it. He actually was quite a competitive showjumper beforehand, so did all the musical drives etc - standing up in the saddle, pulling guns, charging around on his extremely large army horse named Henry...

I know Eddie, but the so-called ‘bon mot’ wouldn’t have worked

    My apologies

My maternal grandfather was admitted to the Cadre Noir (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadre_Noir) in 1909 or 10. During the war he was moved to the ‘Cavalerie Blindée’, the armoured cavalry, i.e armoured cars and the first Renault tanks.
Before entering the CN, he was preparing to be a jockey (small guy, 5’3).

The scourge of St. john’s Wood , the fields behind Wormwood Scrubs and my bit of Ladbroke Grove back in the day.
