I was talking to a friend about this just the other week. I remember my dad putting some inside his socks each day. Isn’t there health risks associated with it?
This randomly popped into my head earlier , do people still use it , what is it actually for ? As a kid I was always made to use it after a bath ...... usually ended up looking like casper leaving white footprints everywhere.

Yes, but only for drying out my snooker cue when it get sticky and fitting bushes to cars.
It was always recommended in the forces for looking after your feet.
Yes, talc is great for testing wind direction.
I believe the problem is that some of it comes from mines that also have seams of asbestos running through them.
I have not tried but apparently useful to use when at the beach to help get sand off kids.
Apparently/allegedly makes its way up inside a ladies hooha and causing serious health problems - the sort that kills you, hence nobody uses it any more. Even bad on your lungs apparently. Sure there were some cases not that long ago that resulted in huge compo payments.

We used to use talc as the lubrication powder on a carom board when I was a kid. Was not as good as the proper carom stuff, but better than nothing.
Would use it for carom today as limited input and contact to body (and smells nice).
I have no idea what a lady’s hooha or a carom board is (and I’m not going to google either).
Back in my triathlon days we used to fill our cycling and running shoes with the stuff to make transitions easier. I imagine some kind of Teflon coated unicorn eggs are used these days. That’s progress...
I used some only this morning in an attempt to get rid of squeaky trainer syndrome. Sprinkled under the insole, it apparently absorbs the collected moisture that causes the squeak.
I won't know until tomorrow if it's worked or not.
I used to use it to ease putting on a drysuit when diving. I liberal sprinkling on the cuff and neck seals makes the donning far easier.
I used some just yesterday to ease the chaffing on my sweaty bollocks.

Many a cycling gent (me included) will use talc on his inner tubes when fitting.

Anyone remember this old joke? The punchline was "If I could walk that way I wouldn't need the talcum powder".
😩😁😁👍👍🇱🇰😏👩*🚒😎 weird but great question
When you’ve been hitting the curries and beers hard and your h00p is like a burned out firework, nothing better than a handful of talc in that delicate area after a shower
You can also use corn starch for the same testicular persipration-control purposes, as beloved by chefs and kitchen workers - see Kitchen Confidential by the late great Anthony Bourdain, also,Chef the movie
'The mineral talc in its natural form does contain asbestos and does cause cancer, however, asbestos-free talc has been used in baby powder and other cosmetics since the 1970s. But the studies on asbestos-free talc give contradictory results.'
Blimey. So that does seem to suggest there was a time that we used to liberally sprinkle ourselves with asbestos-talc?!
That now seems more mad than the video of John Noakes climbing up Neslons Column (ooh err Missus).
'The good old days'...(?).
I nowadays only use talc after a day out at the beach - perfect for quickly drying your bits and feet and the sand comes off straight away
in my youth I used to put some on my nads after a waxing/shaving but that is way more than you needed to know
oh and recommended to lube the Citroen 2CV push-pull gearchange shaft that comes out into the dashboard - never use oil here it kills the seals
My missus calls me the talc monster...my bathroom looks like I’ve been dusting everything for fingerprints

I cover myself in it (well, the area from below navel to above knees!) after every shower, after spraying with anti-perspirant deoderant. Use Johnsons baby powder. Smells nice, keeps everything dry and just feels better.
Hope I dont get cancer now!
And yes, it does leave white marks on the carpet / floor / hand which then leave dusty finger prints on my clothes :-)

Dust the old crack and conkers off with it daily, if you run out do not substitute with cement, no matter how powdery a replacement it seems to be

No reference to a use for corn starch, but you might like...Don't Eat Before Reading This.
A guy I know who used to work in intelligence tells me he leaves a saucer of the stuff in his bag whenever he leaves a hotel room. Impossible to conceal if it’s been disturbed.
I was expecting something more hi tech but it makes sense if you think about it.

Liberally dust the inside of my waders, so much easier to get them on and off.
Actually, I thought they hid in the bag themselves.

I don’t know if this is established and taught tradecraft or just something he did but I wondered about it too. Surely it only works once because as soon as your bag has talc in it, it’s there forever?
However the guy is a senior army officer (and a really nice bloke) so I’m not inclined to disbelieve him. No reason to make it up.
