    PSA Castrol Magnatec Stop Start

Every now and then my local Tesco has this at £9 for a 2 litre ‘bottle’. I spotted some today.

My car need 7 1/2 litres of the stuff so saves me a bob or two.

    That’s a good price
VW have just relieved me of £173 for an oil change on my Golf R which uses this....

Is this a special oil for cars fitted with stop/start? what makes it special?

Castrol MAGNATEC STOP-START specifically protects your engine in busy traffic conditions, offering 20%** more protection from damaging stop-start engine wear. Castrol MAGNATEC STOP-START contains intelligent molecules that cling and form a self-healing layer, so it’s always ready to protect at each of the critical stages of stop-start driving.

Well that’s what the blurb says....

Marketing blurb, I assume but I work on the assumption it is a decent brand and compatible with my car!! That is the level of my zero knowledge of cars!

Why would anyone want to put that stuff in their engine.

Is that the Stop start ACEA C2 for PSA engine version? I bought a Citroen C3 with the 1.2 3cyl Puretech engine last month, it specifically needs 0w30 ACEA C2.

There will be someone more knowledgable than me coming along soon but a 0 -30 oil is a winter weight oil.

Since synthetic base oils have come down in cost, and emissions are top of the priority list 0w30 and even 0w20 had become the default for summer and winter. Engines have evolved in bearing, valve and liner design to allow for this.

The A3/B4 is 10W-40, the A5 is 5W-30 as is the C3 - whatever the hell that means!!
