    Limited Edition Watches

    Hi Folks

I'm looking for some advice, i have recently purchased a new luxury watch the both retailer and manufacturer had advertised as being limited to 100 pieces.
When the watch arrived I immediatly noticed the serial number was far in excess of 100 and emailed the retailer, they then came back and said because the watch proved so popular the manufacturer has extended the production run.Personally I feel very let down by the brand as I consider them to be fraudulently selling watches that should not be produced and if I had purchased one of the original 100 would be very unhappy that the manufacturer has continued to produce and sell in excess of the number they had said would be produced. The retailer in question knows that this is a major issue but the brand will not engage in any discussion on this matter with me to date. Has anuone here ever come across this kind of situation befor and if so what was the outcome. All feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if there's much you or the retailer can do apart from returning the watch.

Out of interest, which watch was it?

I have no experience in this scenario, its pretty niche.

I guess an argument could be made that you were mis-sold the watch as the description of the item has changed significantly? The closest similar case I can think of is when the launch model Playstation 3 advertised Linux compatibility, only to be removed in a future firmware update. There was a lawsuit against Sony that they had effectively changed the specification of the item and there were not total refunds, but a decent chunk. See here/. Its not perfectly close as the item has the same specification, an argument could conversely be made that the production does not form part of the item description.

Tough one, personally I'd be talking to the trading standards body relevant to you. Would be grateful to hear how it plays out.

I do hope this is not the Harrods Tudor Black Bay as it is well known that release has gone over the original 100

The thread is a bit useless without more details. Laurent Ferrier have been a naughty in the past with their minor variants of ‘limited micro editions’ which have annoyed customers who’ve spent 50-100k+ for the exclusivity.

    Welcome to the forum.

What's the watch and who's the seller?

A "luxury watch" in my mind is (admittedly a generalization):

-something you have spent you're a frivolous amount on (actual cost is relative based on an individuals ability to spend be it £10 or £1mil)
-without a care of its current of future monetary value. (if future value is important, it's a commodity)
-something you, not others, actually like (personal choice, and individualism is the only real luxury left in watches)

Any other watch is either a commodity, statement or a tool/beater.

I would return it if you bought it for its scarcity or if you like it now you've got it on your wrist enjoy and forget it.

Interesting. I don't see any mention on the Jura website of it being an LE?

Have you looked if it's still showing on the Graham website? Might be worth screen-grabbing there too

If you bought and paid for an LE version, that is what you should get.
If it isn't that, send it back for a 100% refund.

I Think I would be a little annoyed but what can you do? Not the AD's fault.
I'm gonna use the Harrods BB as an example. Originally when it was announced it was only supposed to be 100 pieces for VIP's and important guests/Customers of Harrods store that spend big were offered it. It then was extended by another 50 I believe...but popularly grew beyond astronomically and now its avaliable to anyone and numbers are into 25XX now.

Why does the manufacturer decide to do this?

    It's all about making money.

Er the brand and the watch would help - which the OP duly updated us with.

As to the OP, I'd be peeved if that was the case. Good luck trying to resolve it, not sure what your options are.

The OP was asking for advice, brand doesn't matter.

The item isn't as described, it's as simple as that. 100% refund should be easy to obtain.

£7500 for a Graham??? How much for a Steve? A review of the said watch, I suspect it will divide opinion in the looks department, but each to their own.

If it was sold as limited edition and it isn't then I'd return it for a refund.
If it was sold as limited production and then it isn't I'd say my pedant skills are developing nicely.

Has to be mis-sold surely? Unfortunately greed over customer care.

Isn't this the point when you start hammering their twitter feed...no social media animal myself but companies don't normally like bad press via this channel.

Hard to believe they sold more than 100 of these!
