    from the picture it looks like a red striped jumping spider. Philaeus chrysops



    and i've just learned in Europe they are called red bellied jumping spiders. something new every day :)

    Having now returned to a decent broadband connection, just a note to say thanks for your research. Various other members of our party had convinced themselves it was something much more sinister.

    I thought the spiders were quite cute..

    Am sitting in the arbour, next to my pond, enjoying a beer when this little chap drops down right beside me. Luckily this isn't to scale, he's only about 1cm long.

    Garden orb web spider. Very harmless unless you're a bluebottle.

    It's just had two flies in the space of 5 minutes. It moves incredibly quickly when it detects something.
