American Style Fridge/Freezer keeps tripping electrical sockets

Had my Samsung Fridge/Freezer about 11 years now and it's been great. Unfortunately this morning it has started to trip the sockets on the main fuse box. Unplugged everything and then tried all appliances one by one and it trips within 4-5 seconds of plugging fridge in. Tried changing fuse in plug and that's the extent of my very limited skills lol.

Anyone had a similar problem, I dare say it'll be an electrical gremlin which can't be fixed but before I have to shell out £1000 for a new one has anyone had a similar problem?

Oddly I had the same thing with my Samsung fridge freezer a few years ago, can’t fully remember how I fixed it, but I think I just plugged it into a different socket and it didn’t trip the electric. Hard to remember as the damn thing blew up a few weeks after and I got a new one (not Samsung).

Sounds like you need to buy a Miele one.

You could try something else in the same socket as the FF, might isolate it as being the socket or the appliance?
    Cheers..

could be a bad mcb or a fault with f/freezer
Not very helpful but it’s one or other

Tried plugging in other socket but still tripped so it’s definitely the fridge.

Miele......that would require selling a watch. I’d rather drink warm beer 😂

Sounds like there's short in the compressor.

Will have a look as to whether it’s economical to try and repair but I dare say given the age it’s probably better to replace. What a crap way to start the week

    Subtle, but very amusing!

Don't ignore it! Remember what caused the fire at Grenfell and in the last four weeks one member of staff at our place had a very serious fire at home - she kept resetting a breaker. Eventually the power-pack for the ceiling downlighters ignited.

The breakers are there to protect your house wiring (amongst other things) so don't ignore the warning signs.

It could still be the wiring in the plug, I would cut it off and put a new one on and try again.

Just checking you mean another socket entirely or the second socket in a 2 gang socket?

If the latter try the former as the socket itself could be faulty.

Try plugging it in on a different circuit breaker of same ampage
The garage or upstairs for instance using an extension cable
If it trips there is a fault with the f/freezer
If it doesn’t it’s the circuit breaker itself

Search online - plenty of posts about this.

Possibly related to surge on start-up.

Does it have separate compressors for freezer and fridge sections? If so, try turning each section off at thermostats and see if still breaker trips with each off. That would probably identify a faulty compressor. (can you hear the compressor/s starting at the same time as the breaker trips?) Also, without knowing the machine, is it a frost free version with a fan/s? Could be a fan fault, if so which would be considerably cheaper to repair.
