    Caterpillar identification

    Anyone know what this is?

Can’t seem to find an exact match. Looks vaguely like a brown tail or Lackey.

    Very Hungry Caterpillar?

I'm no expert, but am a bit concerned that this may be an oak processionary moth. They can cause very severe skin complaints as well as destroying oak trees. We have them round us in SW London and they are treated in the local parks by workers in protective clothing.

I may be wrong and it's something completely harmless.

I did think this (as was concerned about the dog), but it didn't seem to look like one (according to Google images anyway).

Whatever it is, many of these hairy caterpillars cause irritation so treat with caution.

It’s been safely removed from the garden!

I’ve seen any others, so doesn’t fit the MO of the processionary!

I'm always amazed that these creatures transform into those beautiful butterflies.

How hard it was to Google this image. First I had to take screenshot, then load it into a photo program, Photoplus X8, then save, except it saved it as a .pnp image, which Google refused, so I had to go back into Photoplus and export it as a .jpeg, which Google accepted and then returned its options, of which this was the right one.

Or a rather blend moth in this case (but I get your point!)

DOH !! I didn’t bother looking that name up. I presumed it was the species of Caterpillar.

    Caterpillar Identification

I can confirm that you have accurately identified it as a caterpillar.

If it is a slow worm, it must be feeling the chill so has put on its best fur jumper.
