It could be argued that 20mm lug spacing on watches of this size is too wide. I've been wearing my 36mm Everest on Natos from day one, apart from brief tries on leather. The thickness and weight of standard Natos is perfect, but the non taper just doesn't work quite right for me. Eddie's grey Nato is a great colour, but the size of the buckle plus the non taper leaves the whole combo unbalanced for me. Other makes work better as the buckles and hardware are much more svelte and of course polished. Eddie's grey and coyote brown work brilliantly on the much larger Damaskos I have, and of course the finish of the hardware matches the Damasko steel very well. My next move is to fit shoulderless bars to the Everest and try it with an 18mm Nato. I've got a couple on an issued CWC and issued Precista that I have, I'll dig 'em out later and put a few pics up.

On the left an 18mm, and to the right 20mm straps from UKWatchstraps and Timefactors.

Just for info - I tried a 22mm one of those and wasn't impressed at all. It was very flimsy whilst at the same time being scratchy.

  15. #315
On the same focus, please any source for good 18mm perlon straps in dark brown or khaki or navy with solid hardware ?

    Sorry for the off-topic

Sorry, been a bit hectic today so these are a little bashed together. Green works well too...

I think that it a grey Perlon might be worth trying.

    Agreed! Just ordered one.

I was also thinking that this watch would equally (?) well with a blued steel seconds hand.

Although I love the orange one the sunlight recently has caught the blued outline of the other hands and set me thinking . . . .

    Good Perslon thread here:

    https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...38#post5157338

As I said there, ust ordered some Mayhofer "Atmore" perlons.

If anyone wants to but some of the other branded ones (Ullchro, Bornbayb, DaLuca; there may be more) plus some of the "German-made" or "Made In Germany" ones on ebay that would be great (no disrespect but I'm not dropping £100 on a dozen perlon straps) then I'll do a side-by-side review / comparison and return them to you

I'm happy to buy some of the £3 cheapies (presumably Chinese tat?) and see how they look, feel and perform.

Meanwhile, I'm busy breaking-in my Eulit "Panama" so, let's how that goes. I have to say that for the price I'm yet to be convinced they are worth it.

I started a thread here touting crown & buckle's perlons as the only ones I've tried that measure up to eulit. That being said, I have not tried the other brands you mention other than daluca which I found to be not very impressive.

The grey Panama seems to go with everything and the lighter colour reduces the appearance of chunkiness that the lack of taper can cause in the darker colours.

I have been wearing one on my 36mm Everest all day. It didn't seem out of place with a suit and tie this morning and looks equally OK with the T shirt and shorts Im wearing at the moment.

I'd stick with Eulit for Perlons ... but not the Palma Pacific ... go for the Kristall or Panama. Limited colour choices but they are the best made and most comfortable on the market.

I don't know about the Expedition, but the AM looks a million dollars on one of Eddies black pigskin numbers and, with Everest in mind, I'll probably be picking up a brown one of the same ilk as it's not far off the RGS standard worn by Hillary. Although Tenzing had his on a Bonklip so either is a fine option:

As for the sapphire I'm usually a zealot for nice thick highly domed hesalite, but the AM has been a revelation in that department. I'm curious how thick it is as I've put a hole through sapphire before, but it looks fantastic on the wrist and makes the original look dowdy in comparison.

I'd also note that, for those who are unsure about the red hand, if you look at the 1950's Tudor dial which was the spit for the Everest ones (and the North Flag ones) there is a clear precedent for the same second hand as the AM on a watch which is jazzing on Smiths and Rolex themes:

So, a second version of the Smiths De Luxe: the same but with a flat dial and blued steel seconds hand as per the AM?

    Hell yes!

Will this be interchangable with the current PRS-25 clasp? If someone wanted to put the current Everest clasp onto the Expedition?

Already have two excellent Timefactor watches a PRS-29a and PRS-45 on a deployant strap, so will be following this closely from now on.

Though I'd not planned to add another 'civilian' watch to the collection but this may have changed my mind. However a fabric/leather strap would need to be an option, as I tend to find bracelets uncomfortable.

I was going to hold fire on one of these, on the basis that I have a PRS29-AM, and the two are so similar that I couldn't have both.
But as luck would have it, my wife has adopted my AM and worn it all summer (on an AF0210 strap), so I am taking that as tacit permission to buy its replacement.
    Looking forward to it

Hmmmmm ... the old wife-takes-the-watch-justifying-the-new-watch plan.

Sounds like perfectly executed, well done sir!

Haven't tried that one. Always sticking to black dial dive watches has been the ticket for me: she thinks I've owned one watch over the dozen or so years.

Good effort. I'm hoping to do the inverse. The wife has expressed an interest in the proposed Smith's Caribbean. Hoping she'll buy it and then get bored of it. At which point I'll kindly step in and offer to look after it.

But will the Caribbean ever happen?

When Eddie's feeling up to it, I'd imagine. It'll take a little while to get over such a major op.
