One of the reasons I like this thread is the general lack of tribalism.

Hopefully it won't go down that road.

Interesting times and this season so far a mega shift in results and expectations for my part as a lifelong CFC supporter just glad of the way Frank is using our developed youngsters ( but a clean sheet would be nice) as to the rest i expect LFC to carry on as i feel they have the luck with them , good to see Wolves win also Newcastle and Spurs well big probs but so what

My tuppence worth - Man City, as last year, have notched up a few losses and draws on the way so far and keep chugging along. If and when Liverpool lose a match will they be able to cope or will the wheels come off? That’ll be the real test.

If they’re 10 points ahead by the winter break I’d expect them to win. Until then there’s always the chance of a slip up against one of the league’s minnows (like Man U for example ;-)

I don’t know Wolves and was half watching the highlights, was Traore playing at right back and then got switched to centre forward and ran in two goals? If yes, don’t think I’ve seen that before.

Traore is a winger / forward who has been mostly played at Wolves as a wing back to fit in with Nuno's formation. His only previous goal for Wolves was over a year ago at West Ham and his form last season was generally disappointing. This season he's looked a lot better, thought he took his chances against City really well.

What's going on, the mighty Blues putting the Hammers to the sword.

Fantastic stuff - only 30 points from safety 😂😂

We should have more international breaks if this is what it does to Everton.

    Wow
After watching the ineptitude of the refereeing at Everton, I’ve just seen the VAR review of the Watford non penalty.
    Absolutely defies logic .
    I’ll say it again, it’s corrupt .

Strapping myself in for this one now .
Playing without recognised centre backs .
It’s all been about VAR today . I don’t see City’s game being any different .

Frighteningly bad , there were at least three incidents that have gone Tottenhams way . The non penalty on Delafeou was absolutely shocking . This is the same ref who gave Liverpool a penalty for Manes dive last time out v Leicester. There’s something murky underfoot .

How did palace v city end with only 2 goals. There should have been about 6 in the second half alone.

If you’re on a bad run of form and need a boost of confidence... home to West Ham should sort it nicely.

We were shocking today. Really missed Fabs but that 4th/5th place was papering over a lot of cracks. Two very winnable home games coming up and if we have any hopes of a decent league finish we need to show a lot more than today.

That said, at least Lukaku didn’t score against us today.

    100%

The issue is the on field ref should make the decisions, not the guy in the room, on field ref in cricket and rugby direct the TMO to what they want to review, every decision is reviewed by VAR. waste of time

As for the Man U goal, shouldn’t stand

    Mane decision correct

I know the Man U goal came after the foul but Liverpool still shouldn’t of conceded in that position .
It goes to show we need a couple of new players,no real quality on the bench .

Still shouldn't have conceded ? It was a breakaway with a ball acoss and a good finish.

What would different players do differently in that situation ? It was a foul.

That’s the first United game Ive watched this season .
    Fred, Young , McTominay and Perreria(sp) wouldn’t get in City’s women’s team .
They were doing well , certainly the better team up until the manager decided to defend the one goal lead and invite Liverpool on.
RashFord was very good today. He’d be excellent in a top four team .
VAR is again the main talking point .

  32. #482
A couple of interesting points raised by Lineker and Shearer in MOD that no on the pitch ref has gone to check the screen by the side of the pitch and no penalty has been given by VAR. Seems like VAR won’t overturn refs original decisions

Gary Neville did say in commentary that in a meeting between clubs and the refs that they wouldn’t review decisions on the monitor like they did in the World Cup.

I haven’t noticed them do this in the champions league so I can assume they thought this was time saving

    Var is pathetic.

The Rashford goal shouldn't have stood it was a blatant kick in the back of the leg. (whats the point in even looking at VAR if they arent going to do something about obvious stuff like this)

The Mane goal I can get my head around as they have changed the rules so if it even clips a hand leading to to goal it gets ruled out.

The obvious thing to me though wiht the Mane goal is that if they are looking at that incident for the goal how can they not then deduce it is a fould on Mane as the Utd player has hold of him and is pulling him back.

Its pointless if you are actually looking at an incident and dont follow the letter of the law.

They do check monitors in the CL ( see the City -Spurs game you mentioned).
It’s just the FA who don’t , or won’t use this facility.
It was mentioned again yesterday that the referee has been backed every time by his colleagues at Stockley on any decision he claims to have seen . This is why Uniteds goal stood but Mane s didn’t . Ref said the tackle was fair but didn’t see the ball to hand from the Liverpool man .
Also explains the decisions at Tottenham and Crystal Palace to name two . Ref is saying the tackles were fair and VAR will not overrule him .

Agree the use of VAR has been poor recently. Two points dropped yesterday by Liverpool, just like last season.

He's nowhere near top 4 standard, and never will be. And I like the kid.

Was it really that blatant? Origi went down holding his right leg, but the slo-mo showed his left one was clipped.

VAR should not be reviewing those decisions though, when they're going to side with the on-field ref. Pointless.

It seems like old toilet is becoming a bit of a thorn for us. If we are to win the league then its games like this we MUST take advantage of.

Mind you in hindsight a point is better than no point.

I saw the game as "glass half full" than "half empty".......lol

I don't buy the old "had plenty of time" line. A lot of games get won by 1-0 which is what it would of been if the ref did his job. This stat didn't suprise me.
'According to the referee, United didn’t commit any fouls between the 22nd and 72nd minutes. As unlikely as that sounds, not least as they made nine of their match total of 11 tackles in that period'

When I saw the headline to this article I clicked on it prepared to scoff...comparing Sterling to one of the all-time best finishers the game has ever seen I thought was fanciful, to say the least.

Turns out it's not really about goalscoring. Interesting read.

He has added so much more to his game .
It was obvious at Liverpool and early on at City that the raw talent and pace were there but his decision making could be called into question.

One thing about Raheem is that he’s always willing to learn . One of the most grounded players out there and he has endured some crap over the last few years, you only have to look at last years World Cup thread on here to see the opinion of folk .
He was even attacked outside the ground before a City match such was his unpopularity amongst mouth breathers.
I always refer to the League Cup Final when we beat Liverpool and I was in Club Wembley , surrounded by Pool fans . Raheem was getting pelters from them especially when he missed a couple of presentable chances. I told one group that he would be World Class within five years and they laughed .
There s a catch phrase there somewhere.

A great player and role model .

Harry Maguire £80m, Jonny Evans £3.5m. Nice business! Although I think United’s problem is creating and sticking the ball in.
