I seem to remember he was usually up to some hair raising item.

I remember this at the time, pretty scary stuff with a ladder tied to the column and no safety ropes! One slip and you’re dead. And the cameraman did it too, presumably carrying the camera.
And those flares would be ‘dangerous’ anywhere 😂

I don't mind heights generally, but watching that made me feel quite squiffy.

How we've went from that, and stuff like that was done by your average guy every day to the snowflake generation in such a short space of time I'll never know.
As compelling as this video is it's certainly not a great advert for the past. 4 guys needlessly risking their lives ultimately to save someone more senior paying for proper training and safety equipment.
Yes Health and Safety can go too far now but I'd rather that than Aberfan, Hillsborough, the Bradford City fire, The Herald of Free Enterprise, Formula 1 drivers expected to die for our entertainment, etc. These are the kind of outcomes that inevitably result from such a lax attitude to safety.

Whilst one can respect the balls of steel required I agree that it's a good film to show how far we've come and shows that not everything is elf and safety gawn mad. I also enjoyed the fact that I could see the window of my old office in the film - if I had been working there in 1977 I could have waved at them.

As someone who gets a little light-headed ascending a larger than average curb, Noakes demonstrates unfathomable levels of nonchalance
To be fair, life expectancy for the average bloke then was 68 in the UK and now it’s close to 80.
I remember watching that sequence as well. I more alarmed by it now.
Life expectancy today isn't down to what people did for a living, more to do with better diet, not as many folk smoking and such. Still places where I grew up where life expectancy for males is in the 50's
People are a lot fatter these days too and jobs are more sedentary.

If you think that's bad have a search for "bamboo scaffolding" on YT - the whole lot sways & is held together with bamboo strips. I once saw them build out from the top floor/roof & then drop a vertical down into thin air, a guy then shimmeyed down to the end & fixed a horizontal back to the building.

Recent forum history suggests it will turn out to be a Smiths or a Rolex.

Yes we live in a safer world but the internet combined with smart phones has changed us as a population, probably for the worst - even though I'm currently typing this on the internet I do look back to the 80's through to the 90's with rose tinted glasses..
