Ok thanks... I know they do road surfacing on new build estates
    Is this not civil engineering?

Got me thinking to Ever Ready, and it being the battery brand of my childhood (1970s/1980s) but hadn't seed them in years. Seems bought over by Energizer and last made in the late-1990s.

What other childhood brands have gone AWOL?

Not individual things like Texan bars but actual brands that were once everywhere.

I suppose British Leyland is a start!
    Except Ever Ready isn’t defunct

Not really, they're specialist subcontractors. The project as a whole may be civil engineering but not the surfacing. A bit like a school janitor's standing in the education system.

There’s a previous post about this, looks like they’re owned by Energiser.

    That brings back memories.

When I was a kid I used to go around with my uncle on his paraffin round on a Saturday. We sold Esso Blue.
I think the pink paraffin (Aladdin?) was mainly sold in hardware shops.

Plenty of people still had paraffin heaters in those days

Way back in 1984ish I flew on a Dan Air BAC One-Eleven to Germany with my dad. We were amused to note that rain water was leaking in (apparently despite pressurisation) via one of the emergency exits.

I bought the Sony clone, called a Clie, from somebody on this forum. It even ran the Palm software.

Happily played chess on it, whilst commuting, for many years. Didn't ever use it for anything else.

Recycled it a couple of months ago...

+1......I remember buying them as a youngster, they were rubbish. I still have one in my toolbox with my name scratched on the side.

Anyone remember Pifco? They made cheap torches and bike lamps, all made in Hong Kong I think.
